Surgery today

Well I'm having anterior and posterior surgery today. Rectocele is worse than cystocele. Suffering since January so not took too long. (UK). Declined pelvic exercises and pessaries and decided to get it all over and done with sooner rather than later. Supposed to be outpatient but appointment is this afternoon so will hopefully be kept in overnight for observation. I'll report back how it goes....

Good luck today with your operation. I am interested to hear how it all goes for you. I have an appointment at the end of the month and I'm expecting to be advised to try pessaries but, like you, I'm not sure if that is best. I like your positive attitude. 👍

Surgery went well. There was another older lady having rectocele op after me. I had spinal anaesthesia which I would highly recommend. Strange feeling and awake throughout, but I simply had iPod playing music through my ear plugs. Did not feel a thing as I was numb from waist down. I was in there for 2 hours. I got cold at one time and my teeth were chattering so I told the anesthetist and she got a heated duvet to put over me to warm me up. I've had worse trips to the dentist. The consultant visited me 2 hours later and said it was a big prolapse and I had made the right decision to have the operation. I'm packed up inside, have a catheter in, no nausea, sickness or pain as yet. Lying in bed with compression pads round my lower legs massaging them. Tomorrow they will take packing out and catheter and I have to wee before I can go home. Been given laxitives to help with any constipation that may occur. The only discomfort is the catheter but it's necessary and no big deal at this stage. So far so good....wide awake though. Can't sleep 🥱😂. Will update as I continue this journey.

Many Thanks for your post and update and hope you are continuing to recover and heal. I was told that I had a mild anterior prolapse and I've also got bowel problems from a spinal operation 2 years ago. Get a lot of pain in vagina , coccyx and anal area. I'm getting very little help and have had to wait so long to get NHS appointments and when I do get them, they do nothing. May I ask which hospital you are under and is it NHS or private?

Came out of hospital yesterday after Dinner. I had the packing taken out in the morning and then the catheter taken out. No discomfort afterwards...it was a relief. I settled for a while and the compression pads taken off my legs - also a relief. I didn't sleep well but the drugs worked as I had no pain except the irritation of a catheter and the continuous compression on my lower legs. My mission this morning was to drink water and they then measured my wee output, followed by a bladder scan afterwards to measure how much liquid was left in my bowel. The first 3 wees were just a dribble and just stung a bit first Forth wee was big and over 500ml. The aim was to insure my bladder emptied to less than 100ml left inside after weeing. The less left in your bladder after weeing the better. I had to do this 3 or 4 times more until the residue reduced to 70ml left and then I was able to be discharged. I was given regular painkillers throughout the day of paracetamol 500mgx2 , Ibrophen 1x500mg,laxitive liquid and dihydrocodeine tablets. I found that I became a bit hyperactive and couldn't settle. Had big breakfast of porridge with raisins and toast. Macaroni cheese and apple pie with ice-cream for lunch and quiche and mash and rice pudding for dinner. I was hungry and craving carbs so went with it. I could walk around the ward ok and did so at intervals. Had a wash and fresh clothes too. I was given anticoagulant Clexane injections to self inject at home for 7 days in the evenings. I couldn't bring myself to do it so hubby had to do it for me into my tummy. All good. I had to keep myself awake for final dose of painkillers to get me through the night. Wees were all good - but no poo yet. I slept like a log ! Today I have been up and down the stairs, a few times. Absolutely no lifting. No ventured outside in the sunshine but laid on my bed by an open window with a lovely breeze. I stopped the dihydrocodeine for morning medication and lunch, but will take some after dinner and maybe bedtime. Still no poo after all that good, but having liquid laxitives and fruit. On a healthy diet now to reduce my BMI. Had a lazy day with hubby in attendance carrying stuff up the stairs etc. So far feeling a bit weary, but no naps just yet, but plenty of Netflix on TV. I'll update tomorrow 👍
