Cluneal nerves

I am wondering whether my sitting pain is caused by cluneal nerve irritation or entrapment. I had pudendal nerve blocks but they actually increased the pain. Does anyone have any information on that? I'd be grateful.

I, too, have severe pelvic floor pain caused by cluneal nerve irritating the levator muscle, causing it to spasm. I had no relief from a shot to the nerve nor 2 rounds of Botox injections into the muscle. I have been taking Lyrica and muscle relaxers which do not provide much relief. It has taken 18 months and many doctors to diagnose. I believe it was due to a hip replacement.

Thank you for your response. I am still waiting for an accurate diagnosis after 2 years. Doctors in Canada are not really aware of pelvic nerve issues sadly. Good luck in your healing journey.

I'm sorry to hear of your pain. You are probably seeing a urogynaecologist already. I hope they are able to find the cause and treat it.

Hi Effie , I too had Pudendal nerve block ( done with ultrasound imaging ) which made my nerve pain a lot worse . My pain is very consistent with Cluneal nerve . Am in the U.K. and no doctors here seem to treat these nerves . Doctors in Nantes , France are very skilled at treating this . Currently am seeing chiropractor in the hope he can help release areas of compression. Hope you are not too bad pain wise

Tank you for your response. I have not yet found anyone who knows about Cluneal nerves. I have researched and come to the conclusion that my pain patterns would suggest them. I am continuing with pelvic physio and hoping to see a Uro/Gyn specialist soon. Are you going to France for treatment? Is the Chiropractor helping?

Hi Effie , had to stop seeing chiropractor. He did some useful things like working on my misaligned sacroiliac, but I was getting bad flare of pelvic nerves. Had a video appointment with dr in Nantes, she thinks that Pudendal and Inferior Cluneal are likely causes of my pain . They need to see me for physical examination and nerve block . Due to Covid their lists are very long , so may not get to see them until next year . Have you made any progress with diagnosis or treatment?

Thank you for your response. I'm so happy that you have at least a path forward for treatment. I found a similar problem with my chiropractor. The back massage/treatment made the pelvic pain worse.I also feel that my cluneal and pudendal nerves are the problem. I have been waiting for an appointment to see a Neuropelveologist in September. Meanwhile, I'm continuing with Pelvic Physio, but I don't think it's doing much.

I hope you can get an appointment with the doctors in France soon. I presume you are in the UK so it should be a short trip. Do keep me updated. I'd love to hear about your treatment. Take care and try to enjoy the summer!
