Who has experience with botox treatment for anal fissures and wants to share his / her experience?
I have fissures for 7 years now. The biggest complaint is the pressure I feel down there. I rarely actually have pain. Recently I also suffer from a slight loss of intestinal fluid. This ensures that I hardly dare go outside because I just don't smell fresh you know. I've been home for a month and would like to pick up my life again.
I was referred to a specialist but she was unable to do an internal examination because it was too painful, due to the fissures. I myself think that there are also internal hemorrhoids that cause soiling. I will get the botox treatment in a week, but I am afraid the soiling complaints will get worse and I will end up in a total social isolation.

You may have pelvic floor dysfunction and inferior pudental rectal nerve issues which would acct for the pressure.... They thought I had fissures and hemmoroids and I didn't I had PFD and nerve issues...I wasn't bleeding so I didn't think it was they almost always bleed.... Of course botox made probably help I was wondering if they giving you any compounded cream to relieve pressure?anyway we can talk more if you need to...
Hey, thanks for your comment. I did get diltiazem cream for the fissures. That worked well against itching and sharp pain, but not against the soiling complaints. I don't think it's IPR tho because I don't experience pain very often. But I was thinking of PFD, but the doctor said the circle muscle works well, so I do not know if it can still be a PFD problem. I'll just wait then. I hope she finds internal hemorrhoids, so it can be fixed soon.
Hi. I had botox to help 10 years of painful fissure and is honestly the best thing ever and really helped. II no longer have the pain that could last for hours, BUT if I need to go, I have to go straight away as I don't have the feeling to be able to hold it. So I'm not sure about the soiling problem. Hope that helps a little bit.
Fissures haven't gone away completely but are very much improved. Its been about 6 months already for me and its all still fine so I'm not expecting to have it done again.
Hi, I know we’re not on here to diagnose but your symptoms sound like you may possibly have a Rectocele (prolapse of the bowel), which would make you feel pressure in that area and also give you the other symptoms you’re describing. My friends Daughter had the same symptoms and that’s what she had.
With fissures the main symptoms you would have would certainly be pain. I have been suffering with them for a few years now. And yes did have Botox for this but wasn’t great for me, as I felt made my situation worse as now have a whole host of other symptoms! I found the creams were better for me to be honest.
I would suggest being referred to a Colorectal Consultant, where they can perhaps give you an Ultrasound Scan or a Colonoscopy to check?
Hi, thank you so much for your response. I have been referred to a proctologist. She diagnosed the fissures. I do experience pain during and very shortly after bowel movements, but not for hours. The symptoms of Rectocele are indeed very similar to my symptoms. Next week the proctologist will conduct further research into the cause of the soiling under general anesthesia and for the fissures she will give botox. I hope she will find something.
May I ask what complications you experience from that botox treatment? and is it chronic?
I developed pelvic pain afterwards in my pelvic floor muscles. I wasn’t given the best after care to be honest after my Botox treatment. They didn’t warn me to take a stool softener or laxative after the procedure as would more than likely have constipation. I ended up getting bad constipation and tearing again with another fissure in a different place and this one was much more painful than the original one. It made me have muscle spasms in that area, which I think in turn caused my pelvic floor muscles too tense up even more and shorten.
Fissures eventually headed but now left with worse pain from tight pelvic floor muscles that went into spasm! This then also eventually caused me nerve pain.
About 7 years ago I started having a terrible anal itch..it would just be the skin around the outside and slightly inside of the ring..nothing would help. Doc said it was chronic fissures and wanted to do the Botox. Botox seemed to help for a small amount of time, but the side effects were awful..you can’t hold your gas in..it just comes out and I hope you are near a restroom if you need to go! After that I’ve tried sooo many otc and prescription creams, steroids, you name it. I’ve seen so many doctors that I’ve just decided to live with it for now. About 2 years ago I changed jobs and was under a lot of stress, started to only be able to eat once, maybe twice a day. I would feel nauseous instead of hungry and just could not force feed myself most days..ended up losing 30lbs over the course of a few months..saw my family doctor but literally told me “and good job with the weight loss, you’re looking good” after I had told her twice I wasn’t trying...fast forward to a year ago around May 2019 and out of nowhere I started having stomachs pain, bloating, liquid diarrhea and this lasted for a whole month. Finally got in with a GI who did a lot of stool samples and blood tests, diagnosed with ibs-d. I’ve been on Viberzi for the past year and this medication is really awesome, I have noticed I don’t usually have to worry too much with what I eat. I have noticed really acidic foods and tomatoes for sure upset my digestive system and even tend to make the anal itch worse. I will go back to a proctologist soon since I have not been since diagnosed with IBS and I’m hoping that my doctor can tell me that they are linked in some way with the nerves..I also have essential tremor which deals with overactive nerves..good luck to all and I hope we all find relief!!!
Oh wow, luckily the Viberzi helps you and I hope your complaints will disappear after a while. Have you now gained a stable body weight?
I have had the Botox and I notice that I feel less pressure down there. The doctor could not find a fistula and I have luckily no rectum prolapse. Fortunately I have no nasty side effects from the Botox yet, but I understand that it works optimally after 2 weeks, so we will see.
I stopped using ISDN and diltiazem ointment and I notice that I have almost no fluid loss. I have a strong suspicion that the soiling complaints were caused by those ointments!
