So I've had persistent bloating for 3 months, a flare up of pain in my right pelvis side and gained fair bit of weight and finally decided enough is enough and I should go to the doctor. He told me "it sounds similar to ovarian cancer but we wont investigate because you're not over 50'

Am I right to be annoyed about this??? I have a bad time with doctors anyway after 7 years worth of issues with endometriosis and ibs and I really dont have to have to make a second opinion, especially as I'm seeing the hospital gynae next month. Is this something I should bring up to him as now I'm just sat at home worrying?

Hi Kate, your Dr is totally out of order to say the least with his comments. Not only has he suggested that it might be cancer which would terrify and worry the living daylights out of anyone, but then to be denied any investigation as you are under 50 is age discrimination.

In my opinion his behaviour is unacceptable & negligent.

I’ve just had some routine blood tests done, one of which is for Ovarian cancer, so a simple blood test could detect something is wrong. I too have bloating but pain low on my left side, await results in a couple of days.

Please get a 2nd opinion and yes definately mention to the Gynaecologist about on your appointment, unless you can get a 2nd opinion sooner with another Dr. Hope you’re ok, kind regards.
