Subserosal fibroid

Hi, I have a fibroid outside my womb ( subserosal) which was 6.7cm last spring when last measured. It doesn’t actually cause me pain. It was only found when I had a scan at a fertility clinic.

I was told that anything over 5cm has to be removed.

It isn’t causing pain or bleeding.

Does anyone know if it has to be removed? I’ve heard they shrink at menopause. I’m 39 so not there yet.

Anyone know if I have to have it removed? I have appointment in Feb.

Thanks.

Hi,

My understanding (minimal at best) is that if you’re not experiencing any issues from your fibroid then they’ll just leave it.

I’m 42 and have 3 sizeable ones That are scheduled to be embolised next month. This basically kills them off so they shrink to nothing but a small ball of scar tissue. The downside of this is that the embolisation reduces the blood flow to your uterus which may cause you problems if you’re hoping to conceive.

Fibroids feed off oestrogen so while you’re still producing it any fibroids you have may continue to grow and also new ones form. Once you reach menopause your body stops producing the hormones they need which is why they’re meant to shrink then (but not if you’re taking HRT I guess?)

Hope that helps a bit, good luck with your appointment.
