Hi mim250

I have suffered all my life with fibroids and still do but take heart as I had 2 healthy children whilst having fibroids some of which were 12 cm in size.

After having pains and heavy bleeding I removed them but after 6 years they grew back so my only option now would be a hysterectomy.

As you want to conceive the best option would be to see if the doctors think the pregnancy will be unaffected by the fibroids(S).

It also depends where they situated, what size etc. But don’t panic as it’s more common than you think which means there are specialists that know how to treat them in order for you to get pregnant.

An mri scan in my opinion won’t be as clear as a transvaginal scan as I have just had both 2 weeks ago. But you would exactly where they are and how large with both screening.

If appointments are scarce get a scan and then the doctor will be forced to refer you to a gynaecologist who specialises in fibroids.

I hope this helps!

I had the internal scan that’s how they found them , they grown since my last scan . doctor said there are some irregular ones. My age is an issue for me to go ahead and convince right now . I’m worried this will complicate my pregnancy.

I think of possible you should pay for a MRI scan. I know we shouldn’t have to do this privately but this is what I did. The doctors at that clinic will them write a letter to your GP demanding that they action a referee to a gynaecologist. This is what I had to do.

If an expert request this then your doctor then has no choice in the matter. I’m so sorry you are feeling worried and deflated and sometimes because it’s not a life threatening issue the doctors aren’t sympathetic but it’s still our well being and unless this is looked at you won’t know what will happen with your pregnancy.

Unfortunately this is the only way to get them moving as I couldn’t get my GP to do anything until another specialist git involved.

Ya I’m thinking the same go private. How did you find go about finding out private mri scan? Would private health insurance cover this? Thanks

Thanks for the reassurance. My age would be factoring getting pregnant and not having complications at the end. And iv never had spotting after my regular cycle , this is very new since I found out about the fibroids. I will get my results see how big where exactly they are . Waiting to see the gynaecologist is taking too long just for 15 min appointment , when iv already had internal scan , they know I want them out . MRI I need to have the surgery or treatment. Thanks for you reply
