Botox

How do i go about asking for botox for my pain do i have to see my GP. Can I get it on NHS. I live in West Sussex UK. Have suffered PP for over 30yrs. Just had adhesion separated in May had made pain worse!

I've had Botox but for IC on the nhs so it can definitely be prescribed. Mine was rescues red and carried out by my urology consultant. I'm not sure if a GP can directly request this treatment or if it would have to be done via a pain clinic? I know it can be a bit hit and miss and didn't work for the overactive bladder part of my IC or help with the pain but it has helped many others. Is it to help with an overly tight pelvic floor?

I can only advise you ask your specialist who is treating your PP if they can refer you to

the pain management department at your local hospital. You could contact his/her secretary and leave a message rather than wait for another appointment. All the best.

Hi there

If it's Botox to bladder many hospitals seem to offer this service as part of their urogynae services I believe so your GP should be able to refer you to your most local hospital. If it's Botox to your pelvic floor muscles because they are in spasm then that is less readily available. As far as I know, the only hospital in the UK offering Botox to the pelvic floor to alleviate pain is Mary's Paddington in London, which is where I go for that treatment. If you want details let me know. Very best of luck.

thank you for all your info. How do you know if it is your pelvic floor muscles that is causing pain? All i was told that when i had my adhesions separated in May he told me that i had so many of them it looked like a glue pot,inside me, but he did say that i had some near my bowel which he did not want to do. I think it these that are causing me pain. I cant do any sort of activity with out pain it starts after two days. After having sex is the most painful!! I don't seemed to be getting anywhere with GP this will be my fifth one in my thirty years of this torment that has taken my life away! It seems very funny that all my Ops i had fore my pelvic pain i am now having pain due to having them. I have asked to have some antidepressant but cant have them as i have two heart sents which one i am getting over now! sorry not very good at spelling hope you can understand. It is so good to be able to talk thank you.

Hey Carol, that sounds really tough to deal with. You have my total sympathy. It is so hard to know what to do for the best, I realise. Talking about it with someone sounds like it might be a good idea. If not your GP then perhaps a pain counsellor? If you can't have antidepressants and presumably your pain medication options are limited, I should think that a pain specialist might be able to help you with coping strategies. Have you tried that already?

My pelvic floor spasms are constantly present and they can be felt as areas of cramping muscle in my pf. There are trigger points, like knots of muscle that release when pressed for a few minutes (very painfully). The nerves and muscle are affected. Over the years it has led to many symptoms/issues relating to my bladder, bowel and sex life. The pain is debilitating and gets worse with activity which is so frustrating, especially when you just want to get on with life and difficult to explain to people because it's 'invisible' and in such an intimate area. Dealing with this for the last 40 years sometimes it gets me down. I have good days and bad, but keeping talking (even if it's to myself) keeps me sane. Thanks for you kind message. yes I have been down that road with the pain clinic.I sat out side his office he arrived over an hour late to be told to go swimming that would help me with the pain. I might have just talk to the wall!!!. I have asked for morphine but the drs want give it to me. Do you live any where near me I live Burgess Hill West Sussex
