I have congenital abnormalities and injury to my pelvis. NHS can't help me but I get lots of support and help from the alternative therapists. Although it rarely takes the pain away (but most meds don't either) I have been taught how to relax my mind and body. With relaxation comes insight and acceptance. And you can do these as much as you like without any harm.

I also see a sports physio when I have flare ups. They are very good at locating and treating pain. They will give you exercises to do at home, mine are stretches and I do them before I get up, while still warm in bed, and before I go to sleep. Then I have others like wall pressups which are part of a general work out to keep fit.

Unfortunately Drs don't always have the answers, and any operations thgey offer must be xarefully considered. Akways ask about the failures rather than the sucesses, and remember a 30% success rate is only 1 person in 3 that are helped by it.

But there is plenty you can do for yourself. It's a great opportunity to discover new things and treatments. I recently started aromatherapy massage. It's so soothing and the effects last a few hours. Each therapist I have been to (about 10) has been able to help me in some way. Some have told me about the mechanics of the body, the way pain works, why it's important to relax your mind, how certain exercises or changing the way you do things will help etc.

Distraction is also good. Do something regularly that gets you in the flow (you are enjoying what you are doing, are totally engrossed in it, hours go by without you noticing). It can be anything but is usually creative.

It's not easy when the drs have no answers but it does give you the freedom to try things yourself, and if they work, report back to the gp. No therapy should be harmful to you, some may open up your locked in emotions and you may feel the effects, but they don't last long. It's all part of the journey.
