It isn't always the smallest number that matters!

Documentation for all UK approved hydroxocobalamin available here:

products.mhra.gov.uk/search...

No, of course

Thank you for the link but I don’t really understand the document

Each PIL document (Patient Information Leaflet) can be viewed and, near the end, contains a list of all ingredients.

You will have to work your way through!

Only the first few are for hydroxocobalamin injections. The list then goes off on anything that contains the word "hydroxocobalamin" - anywhere.

You probably only want the PILs - not the SPCs and PARs.

Thank you. This is helpful though as helvella rightly pointed out, it isn’t necessarily about the fewest. Is this the one you use

I’m new to this and looking into the possibility that my son has PA. It was suggested that he just tries B12 to see if it alleviates his symptoms but I m also looking into what test is most definitive

Thanks again

How old is your son and has he had any blood tests? That's the one I order..from versandapo.de in Germany.. I inject daily

Hi again

He’s 32 and not taking this too seriously but he’s had low B12 for a while so I’m in the process of persuading him to research it and get it checked out properly by having tests because so far he’s had only the basic NHS B12 and intrinsic factor antibody

So, you inject daily? I thought it was alternate days until symptoms stop improving. Have I got that wrong?

You're right in being concerned for him..B12 deficiency isn't something you can just ignore .. it can lead to irreversible neurological damage if not treated correctly Nice guidelines state every other day injections yes

But...a lot of us find we need daily.. some people several times daily.. we are all different with different symptoms

What was his B12 level?

Do you know any of his other blood results?

So is it helping you?

Yes, I’m right but I don’t want to alarm him with doom and gloom. I just want him to get himself checked out so that he can either rule it out or get on with treating it

Intrinsic factor antibody was very low and B12 was only 17% through the range. His TFTs weren’t exactly glowing either and his core nutrients were all low

Yes it's helping..but I still have many symptoms I was un diagnosed for a good few years.. so it's not going to be a quick recovery

Do you know his actual blood test results?

I could have a look for you

Have you told him to join here for information and advice?

"I’m right but I don’t want to alarm him with doom and gloom"

Sometimes you need to tell people the honest truth... B12 deficiency can cause serious neurological damage . Too many people think it's 'just a vitamin deficiency ' ..but B12 is needed by every single cell in our body.. it causes demylinisation of the nerves.. dementia like symptoms...plus lots more

I’m glad to hear you’re getting some respite and improvement. It must be difficult to not be angry about being undiagnosed. I had a similar experience with my thyroid condition. Thankfully I found the thyroid forum, it’s been an enormous help

Yes, he’s reading Tracey Witty’s website and has ordered Sally Pacholok’s book

Thank you for your offer of help. Yes, I know his lab results and will look them up. They’re just the basics. What’s the definitive test? Homocysteine? How was yours diagnosed?

Just to say I’m off for a bath then bed, so you won’t hear from me till tomorrow but thank you for your interest
