Diverticulitis - what exactly is it

Many years ago I was told I had several diverticulae, through an internal scan (endoscopy or colonoscopy maybe?). Many times each year I suffer from bloating, it sometimes burns and this year for instance I have had vomiting 3 times for absolutely no reason, no-one else in the family is ever ill and it just lasts 24 hours.

When I told a GP this year I'd been sick twice in one month for no apparent reason but on several occasions throughout the day, I also mentioned (wish I hadn't now) that I was diagnosed with these diverticulae many years back so she diagnosed it was diverticulitis but I don't usually seem to have the pain that she said would go with it, she actually said if the pain lasts longer than 48 hours to go see them and get antibiotics but I don't often have any pain, more discomfort. Today though I do have burning pain in stomach and bloating, in started last night and tbh it just feels like bloating and trapped wind (sorry TMI). I managed to go to work as was only 5 hours but its still there, so does anyone know if this is what diverticulitis is? Or am I merely suffering from bloating, there's often a gnawing feeling inside, I'm not constipated, I drink peppermint tea and water and I take a daily omeprazole and have done for 2/3 years as I thought it was helping with these instances of bloating and burning.

Thanks for any advice good peope of HU.

Kay

Hi Kay

Peppermint and omeprazole don’t go together. Avoid using peppermint if you can. I have acid reflux and learnt the trick through trial and error.

I do not know much about other conditions, hopefully other members can comment

Take care

Oh do you think drinking peppermint tea affects the efficiency of the omeprazole? X

Yes that was my experience as peppermint proved to be lethal for me even when I have come off omeprazol

Oh gosh, I’m shocked 😱 perhaps I should give up the peppermint tea as a trial, I always thought it good for digestion. Got to be worth trying, thank you

Hi

I have it. It's little pockets/pouches and inflammation in the large intestine. Very painful. Take care Lynne

Mine feels like inflammation in the stomach, does that sound like it?

in reply toKrawlins

Hi

That sounds more like gastritis which I have. This is inflammation in the stomach. Take care Lynne

Yes it burns and gurgles and literally feels inflamed, have you found anything that helps or like me do you just have to wait it out? To be honest it was my birthday Tuesday and I ate more chocolate than usual, that is what I think has aggravated it ☹️

Chocolate, sugar and fat does not agree with gas or inflammation in the stomach. Or fizzy drinks. As I am allergic to a lot of food I have turned into being a scientist 🤔🤔. On a serious note food is the culprit for so many conditions, 💐

in reply toKrawlins

Yes, it might have done. To be honest everything I eat gives me some pain or other because of the many conditions that I have. Hope you feel better soon. Take care Lynne

I’m sorry to hear that , my sister is the same and excludes many groups of food from her diet, she doesn’t eat meat, avoids dairy, she tried eliminating wheat, dairy and sugar, and to this day still avoids these, she gets stomach pain without visible bloating and unfortunately only weighs about 6 and half stone, I’m shorter than her but 4 stone heavier!

You take care too

Kay xx

Thank you. Sending gentle hugs to you and your sister. Take care, both of you. Love and hugs Lynne xxxx

All I can say is..."Don't eat nuts"....why??? my grandma had diverticulitis and that's what she would always tell me she couldn't have .Guess it made it worse.Hope this info helps?? IF its not true..maybe my grandma was just plain "nuts",lol

Feel better :)

Haha 🤣 I have read the same about nuts and seeds and I do also eat seeded rolls as I really love them, but yes it’s known to be an aggravator isn’t it. You get to the point where you don’t know what is safe to eat, probably need to follow an exclusion diet or just put up with the bouts of pain and discomfort 🤨

Hi

Seeds especially give me a lot of pain, they get stuck in the little pouches. X

Hi.

I also have this condition. Ido find the little bottles of Yucult that you get in the supermarket helps. Constipation is to be avoided.

Hope you feel better soon.

It sounds like you really need to see a gastroenterologist and get to the bottom of this (pun intended!)

I hardly can pronounce the word gastroenterologist!!

Why do do they make it difficult. Since I joined this group I learned so much about human anatomy 🥀🎄🥀thanks to all 🙏🏻💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐
