Four weeks ago I had a 35cm Cyst, Ovary,Omentom and apendix removed. Im feelin very tender still but feel alot more comfortable then I did before the operation. This week I was told that the cyst was borderline . I am seeing the specialist next week, but wanted to find out now what Borderline meant. I have found some useful information on Ovacome and now know what questions i need to ask next week. Its also helped to read about other women in my situation. I am now feeling very possitive.Big thanks to you all. X

Hi Willow!

As Gwyn Says 'borderline' is good news! However make sure you attend all follow up appointments. Ask what the risks are of it tipping over the border, what they will offer in terms of monitoring. Also ask what you should look out for in terms of symptoms that should ring bells. I ignored my symptoms as I did not know that they were anything to worry abot. After that eat healthily, keep fit and enjoylife! Do not let yourself get bogged down with worry. Plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables and oily fish and get the most you can out of life! Savour every minute!

I also asked what lifestyle changes i could make to help reinforce my treatment.

Good luck and here's hoping that the removal of the cyst and any follow up treatment is the end of it for you.

Love Margaret!

This does sound like good news Willow. I think the questions to ask relate to where the borderline cells were found. Were they all contained within the cyst? Was the cyst removed intact?

They may not recommend further treatment (chemo) in your case but if they do they should give you some stats on the likelihood of its having any effect. Statistics are a mixed blessing at best but might give you some guidance on whether to go ahead with treatment.

Do ask about diet and lifestyle. A lot of stuff I've read talks about the importance of exercise and not being too sedentary. Obviously you have to take your time and recover properly from your surgery first! Just over a year on from the same op as you I'm doing regular brisk walks, workouts, swimming and even running (just a little, and rather slowly as I've never been a runner before!) BTW I'm 56.

Hope this helps. Do let us know how things go and if you find you feel overwhelmed trying to deal with this emotionally come on here for a rant or whatever and we will be here for you.

Love

Linda

PS I recall one doctor said to me that big cysts are often less problematic than little cysts, and yours was certainly a BIG CYST!

Hi Willow,

Borderline is good news. It means it was slow-growing and you will more than likely, not need chemo. Mine was borderline and I am celebrating my ten-year anniversary on December 10th this year. No probs whatsoever, so far ...........

If you go on the Ovacome website there's a fact sheet on there about Borderline OC

All the best

Love Wendy xx

Hi Willow.

That sounds like very good news- I'd take a list of questions with you to the follow up and make notes!
