Got around to reading the paper on Tuesday at 11pm in bed ..... and was most interested to see an article on a lady called Karen Burack who has Ovarian Cancer ..

I have just been flicking round the Ovacome site and you can read the article by going on to the Ovacome home page and find it under lastest news and you are able to read it in full .

I was very sorry to read about Karens story and all that she has been through but pleased to see the Ovarian Cancer has been given some press coverage and hope this will make more women aware of the signs and symptoms of Ovarian Cancer ...

Hi Janet,

Thanks for pointing out the article in the Daily Mail I have just read it on the Overcome site. Its so true doctors are not aware of the signs of OC, and a lot of cases go undiagnosed at first. In fact my doctor said I had a twisted bowl, when in fact I have OC stage 3c. I feel we need to get more publicity re this condition the more women that know about it the more can be done at the early stages. Wendy ( A volunteer on the site ) sent me out some BEAT cards which I am passing round to everyone I know.

I keep thinking of ways we can get the word out to others who may be affected.

Hi there Babs ...

You are so right about the need for more publicity for OC ..I tried at my docors surgery having spoken to the practice manager about having posters on the wall etc etc but its not 'what they do' I was told .

They have info in folders ..Fat lot of flipping good that is .....who reads the folders when you are waiting and pondering in the doctors surgey .....

Ours do have a screen that comes up with info she promised to put info re OC onto that but need to chase her up about it ......

I will contact Wendy re the beat cards ..will take some into school in September .

Hope you are sleeping a little better now xx Its a bit cooler here today , that helps !

I have transferred to the Royal Marsden in Sutton where I have been assured that everything is being done regarding more research into OVC and making GP's more aware of the symptoms. It really isn't good enought that all ladies I read aboout on this site including me were a stage 3c! It's just not good enough! One day there will be a cure but I think a lot of pushing will have to be done - especially to orchestrate a screening programme! Keep strong all you lasies out there!!

I was stage 3c too, took ages for minbe to be diagnosed despite my mother dying of it, quite shocking really, wish I had known the significance of that at the time I sensed it was relevant. Friendsa ask me how I knew something was wrong so I explain all the symptoms so they know. I am as open as I can be about my experience xxx

Hi there ,

Bless you .. you have been throught the mill .... Have just read what you have had to cope with ...

You would have thought as your mum had died from OC it would have been a red flag for the dotors to keep a close eye on you .

Yes if you can its good to be open as one can about it ..I do the same and then get folk saying how brave I am ..but thats not being brave ...Coping with it coming back again and again is to me being brave .

OC is still not talked about enough in the media ..that so needs to change and soon ...

Congratulations to my GP. She got it in one. Stage 2. One grateful patient here.

in reply to Lizneild

Mine got it in two. Thought it was kidney stones at first. Unfortunately I was then stage 4 OC however, I had not had any real symptoms until I started to spot blood after the menopause so hadn't been to the doctors before that. Had major op in April 2010 followed by chemo. So far so good. Take care everyone x x
