Has anyone else experienced fluid build up in their abdomen and cramping pains just around the lower bowel. I had this yesterday and my Doctor did say this happens. If any one else has had it what were they told as I'm not happy with my answer. I have recently been diagnosed with stage 3 c and have had one round of chemo. Thanks Babs x

Sorry to hear that it is giving you this discomfort, Babs. I have no answer to your question, but I know a woman who can ...... Give the helpline a ring on 08453710554. They will be able to tell you what is normal on this regime.

Good luck

Love Wendy xx

Hi

I had fluid around my abdomen which they said was due to having had lymph gland removed. Was told to try to massage it but it didn't get better. Eventually they found I had something called a lymphocele and also a bowel obstruction which were respectively drained and operated on. This of course may be totally different from what you had, but it all went on for a long te withe and I think I was fobbed off with vague explanations for too long when it could have been investigated and treated.

All the best Monique

Hi babs

Are you sure it's fluid? I often get some gas build up just below my ribs and pain in lower pelvis just ater chemo. This passes as my bowels rerturn to nomal after a few days,I wonder if the area is having a bit of an inflammatory raction to the chemo.

as Wendy said the ovacome team are more experienced to answer your ?

Hope you fIeel more comfortable soon

Hello Babs

Yes I had this when I was first diagnosed and if there is a lot of fluid this can be drained. Not a particularly nice experience but you feel much better for it.

It may be that there isn't enough to drain away and it may disappear of its own accord. A scan is the only way of knowing what's in there really.

I was booked in for a drain again a couple of weeks ago. I had my surgical stockings on, my bed on the ward etc when a preliminary ultrasound scan found that my intestine was distended but not much fluid at all. So the procedure was cancelled.

I am guessing that you were either advised to wait till your half way scan or booked in for one sooner than that. I know it can be very uncomfortable and makes eating a decent meal quite tricky in extreme cases. I should speak to the ovacome team if you aren't happy.

Good luck in getting it sorted. I feel for you (literally!)

Love Sarah.

Hi

Have had tummy pains after chemo , usually associated with constipation and or diarrhoea. I start off with constipation , take something for that (various things eg prunes, movicol) then get diarrhoea. Chemo can be quite hard on the bowels. With me its like a balancing act for about a week after chemo. Have not had fluid build up though do have a lot of wind at times which can be painful. If you think fluid has built up its probably best to ask the Ovacome Nurse for advice.

Hope you feel better soon

Hi, I had a build up of fluid when i was first diagnosed,I had it drained 3 times before i had hysterectomy and omentum removed. I felt a lot better after i had it drained,i was much more comfortable afterwards. I did not get a build up of fluid while i was on chemo ,i would ask the ovacome nurse or your consultant they will be able to advise you.

I had horrendous fluid build up and was drained before I started chemo. I lost 12lb overnight! The improvement in comfort was incredible and I was told that I would have it done again if I got further build up of fluid. So far I have not had any more problems on that score and I have been OK!

As the others say the nurses on here have much more experience and knowledge so do use the phone line.

IHi i think its best to have it checked if it was happening before the chemo.Otherwise it could be what the doctor says. Has your abdomen been constantly swollen for a while if so i would definately ask for a scan on your abdomen and not be fobbed off .Ive learnt alot on here so read all the other ladies stuff on here going back it will help alot dont just read the most recent then you will get some answers ok.

Good luck .

Thank you ladies for all your answers re my fluid, my tummy has gone down a bit now so I think it may be ok. I have been drained once, they drained about 10 pints from me when I was in hospital. I have not had any surgery yet only 1 lot of chemo. Re the pains in the lower part of my body, I have been wearing support knickers the past couple of days and they really helped so I will be getting a few more pairs next week. Lovely to get so many replies Love and hugs Babs x x x x
