Does anyone know if prostate cancer is linked with ov cancer in the braca gene mutations with close relatives/
Sue
Hi Sue
I don't know much about it myself... but I have found this article.. It explains this quite well I think... By Nancy L Snyderman MD " Ovarian Cancer the Genetic link" on bewell.com
Hope this helps love x Gwyneth x
Definitely. Both BRCA1 and BRCA2 have been linked with an increased risk for prostate cancer, particularly younger onset cancer diagnosed before age 65. The risk for prostate cancer is higher in BRCA2 mutation carriers than BRCA1 mutation carriers. BRCA2-related prostate cancer can be more aggressive and have a poorer prognosis than sporadic prostate cancer.
If you or any family member has had:
~ ovarian or fallopian tube cancer at any age
~ breast cancer at age 50 or younger
~ breast cancer in both breasts at any age
~ both breast and ovarian cancer
~ male breast cancer
and if more than one family member on the same side of the family has had any of these cancers:
~ breast cancer
~ ovarian or fallopian tube cancer
~ prostate cancer
~ pancreatic cancer
you should see a genetic counsellor and enquire about testing.

Thanks everyone. My sister died aged 36 from ovarian cancer 38 yrs ago in America and have just heard that my brother is having investigations concerning raised blood pressure and his prostate in Brasil!. So warning bells rang out. My oncologist is aware about my sister. Don't know if it would make any difference to my treatment as I am so far down the line.
Thanks again Suex
I inherited BRCA2+ from my father. His cousin prostate cancer, his paternal aunt, breast, then ovarian, 2 sisters breast cancer. So yes it is connected. I think Sharon gave good comprehensive advise.
