Hi there

So sorry to hear that you have had this news. This is a loooong delay, five weeks from your scan to seeing the specialist. If it was something that required immediate intervention then I am sure that the consultation would have been brought forward, so that's a positive.

Also please be aware that the terms tumour, mass and cyst are actually entirely interchangeable , so just because everybody talks about a tumour, it does not automatically mean that you have an invasive cancer. Many cysts bleed into themselves.

Most people with masses /tumours/cysts have them surgically removed , so unless you have a simple cyst and it bursts between now and then you will almost definitely need surgery to remove "it"at some point. How much else is removed depends of course on what they suspect it is, what they find when they open you up , your age , whether or not fertility is an issue etc etc. Very very generally speaking unless you still want children, the uterus, both ovaries and tubes are removed. The more that is taken out the less likely anything is to come back in the future. This is a big operation but thousands of women have it and we all get over it , honestly. You will be in hospital for 5 ish days and will need at least 6 weeks off work.

It is much much better for you that it has been found now than in 5 years time.

I had a very large borderline ovarian tumour removed two years ag , this is a non invasive form of ovarian cancer. I am fine now and enjoying life again.

Perhaps you may wish to consider giving the hospital a call to ask if the visit can be brought forward.

Take care and let us know how you get on.

Love

thank you all, I am going to ring Hospital today!!! Had my 2nd MRI 25th March. Its more likely to be O.C. as my dr informed me that I would need a complete Hysterectomy?? Is this how you spell it ? Still ringing today to see what is happening, as been complaining for over a year of tummy pains and bad back they put me on HRT, said i was having menopause as my periods were so bad.... Thank you all from very scared lady

Hi!

Just wanted to wish you all the best. Like Charlie, I had borderline OC, all removed nearly 10 years ago now and I'm still here, enjoying life. An op is a good option. My surgeon took both ovaries, womb part of cervix and omentum. He did a good job and I didn't need chemo. It was nowhere near as bad as I feared and I was back to walking and swimming after about four weeks and back to driving after 6 weeks. Back to work after 4 months, although it could have been sooner. I took as much time as I could to get over the op. It left me a bit in need of an afternoon nap for about 2 months afterwards.

All the best

Love Wendy xx

Allerton, I can't believe your GP did not look into OC sooner for you, as you've clearly been having symptoms for a while. (I realise the symptoms can resemble other diseases but why was this not checked before? Was it?) And putting you on HRT in light of possible OC...??? Crazy. I was interested to see this week in the news that GPs are being sued for not spotting OC. It seems a bit extreme, on the one hand, but if it is going to make the profession more alert to OC then so be it. We have one of the worst rates for early life-saving diagnosis in Europe so perhaps some hard-hitting action is needed, though let's hope recent initiatives from Target Ovarian Cancer, for example, have done the trick in highlighting the problem. Good luck with the next stage. Fingers crossed that it's not OC.
