I had a lump shaped a bit like a large almond shell on the left side of my neck before I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Initially my doctor thought it was just a swollen lymph gland - if only. It disappeared once I started chemotherapy and although I have since had two recurrences of the cancer I've never had a lump on my neck again. You dont say if you have ovarian cancer, but in any case - as with anything the slightest bit suspicious - you need to get your lumps looked at as soon as possible.

Hi Patsy, thks for your reply.Yes,I have just had surgery to remove a large ovarian tumor which I was told was borderline.Got my follow up app.on May9th so I will speak to the consultant about the lumps then.Hope you are doing great now,Gillyxx

Hi Gilly, I don't know if this helps but my sister had similar lumps on her neck during and after treatment for breast cancer. The docs told her it was swollen lymph nodes in response to the assault on her immune system either from the cancer and its aftermath or from her radiotherapy. So take heart that it might be that and see what your oncologist says? Everything rings loud alarm bells right now - a friend who had breast cancer at 30 and who has a family history of gynaecological cancers told me the worry took over her whole life for a while, before she realized that she was in such good care that she could let the docs take on the responsibility of worry, freeing her up to live her life. Sounds a bit trite on the page but I know she found remission almost harder than the cancer for a while.

Do have them checked out, and keep your chin up as you have done so brilliantly so far.

Ps - just spoke to my sister Gilly- her lumps appeared soon after her op x

Hi Francesca, thks for your answers, you are right,I need to stay positive as things like this are probably going to keep popping up[no pun intended!]I think I was just a bit down as I expected to carry on improving every day, there was no room for set backs in my mind!I have had a horrible gum infection all week, due prob.to being a bit run down after surgery so finding the lumps and realising this may have spread was not good! Anyway Im going to practise what I preach and "rejoice"in this beautiful sunny day!!Ihope that its lovely where you are and thanks to you and your sister,God bless, love Gillyxx

Hi, The lumps are probably inflamed lymph nodes from your gum infection, are you on antibiotics?? Lymph node enlargement from an Ovarian Tumour don't normally present in the neck, and if you say you have a gum infection, this is by far the most common reason. It may be worth seeing your GP earlier....

Good luck at your appointment.

You've been though a lot Gilly so your body is bound to kick off a bit. My sis, who's now fine, had shingles even before her radiotherapy which was awful. All because her body (and mind) had been knocked for six. You could always call your consultant's office after the long weekend and have a chat? Will think of you and yes - enjoy the sunshine, you've deserved it! Francesca x

Another PS! Didn't mean to suggest you'd get shingles - just wanted to say her body was protesting a little even though her cancer hadn't spread. Not sure if you're 46 from your username, but my sis is too x
