Niraparib Time Line?

Hi ladies

I am a bit confused re the length of time you are kept on PARP treatment and what happens when you stop. I have been on Niraparib for over two years now, my oncologist said they will review after three years. I haven’t any problems, my bloods and CA 125 have always been good. I read so many different stories about some are asked to stop and others have been taking the drug over five years. Is it a certainty that when you stop the cancer will return or can some stay cancer free??

Look forward to hearing some advice from you lovely ladies.

Jane

I think we’re all a bit confused about the paribs. Their efficacy, length of time we can stay on them, consequences of staying on, or coming off. I guess it’s still early days For them to have any large conclusive data on it. Stay strong. Grab anything offered to you and be as positive as you can. 👊🏻💪🏻

Great question! One a lot of us are asking. Maybe Ovacome can help with the answers? X

Nothing is certain where cancer is concerned! PARPs are still a bit experimental, so it's not even possible to tell you the most likely scenario. Just stay positive and tell it where to go!

I've been on a Parp for 3 years without any issues with my blood work and my CA 125 has remained low. My physician said he has had women on these drugs for over 5 years. It is confusing but at least these drugs give us a little hope!

I understand that the in the UK it is recommended that you only stay on PARPS for 2 years. This is to reduce the risks of developing other cancers as a long term effect of being on them for longer.

I think the time anyone can stay on Parp Inhibitors varies. So, I can only speak for myself. I’ve been told that, because I’m Stage 4, I can stay on Niraparib indefinitely, unless it stops working, or side effects begin to cause problems. I started in May 2019.

I’m afraid I don’t know what might happen if I stopped taking it!

Wishing you well, Jane
