Delayed neuropathy in one hand

Hi everyone, Happy New Year! Wanted to see if anyone has experienced this and what are ways to deal with it. I finished frontline chemo and didn’t have much, if any neuropathy. But 4 months later, I’d wake up at night bc my right hand would really hurt - burning, tingling, like it’s fallen asleep plus intense burning through the fingers. It goes away gradually after I start squeezing my fist and moving my hand. It’s only in that one hand. I can feel residual numbness in that hand during the day but it’s mild compared to night time. If it’s chemo- related neuropathy (or is it?), I can’t believe it started 4 months after chemo. Has anyone experienced this? Any advice to mitigate the nighttime burning and pain? Thank you 🙏

I have a prescription for pregabalin 75 mg 2 times a day. Helps some. I'm 10yrs coming up cancer free but the neuropathy in my hands and feet have gotten much worse.

Could it be carpel tunnel syndrome rather than neuropathy? This is worse at night and feels like you have laid on your arm. Numb pins and needles and improves as the day goes on. It's often only in one hand. My neuropathy started with my first chemo and got gradually worse and was in both hands and feet. I would see GP.

If it isn't immediately following chemo, I'd get it checked out. It's obviously causing you pain and you don't have to live with that. Go to your GP and see what they think.

I developed a patch on the back of my hand which constantly feels weird sensations a couple of months after finishing chemo. Also tearing sensations in my feet. I think it's from the chemo but have an mri next week to check as my dad has ms.

I think it gets worse over time I now have both hands and feet after 8 years of chemo. I was told there's a drug that works half the time didn't pursue it. They may have improved it. Good luck

Hi Doggies221

Sorry to hear you are experiencing discomfort in your hand.

Following one round of carbo and paclataxel, I had small areas of neuropathy in my right thigh, finger tips and toes- despite using cold therapy gloves and socks.

All of these areas have worsened since stopping my chemo last August. I use heat, massage gun and do ‘dexterity exercises to try to maintain sensation in my fingertips.

I hope you get some relief soon, it would be worth speaking to your doctor
