Awaiting scan

Hi, I had a GP appointment Thursday and have been referred for an emergency ultra sound and blood test. I'm feeling really anxious.

I thought I had peri menopause symptons for months. I'm on estrogen only HRT as have the coil ( which is due to be replaced).

I can only describe my symptons as constant period cramp pain, where you feel like you are going to start your period, constant, this never goes away. I feel bloated all the time, although no hard tummy swelling. Just feel like it's contracting and tight all the time.

My appetite as gone and when I do eat I feel sick after.

My bowels are all over the place.

And the tiredness and exhaustion is unreal. I am trying to stay positive, still getting out for a run, and the gym..although my motivation gone

My bloods are on Monday and scan Tuesday. I keep googling and making myself feel worse.

Hello Liane29.

So sorry that you find yourself in this understandably worrying time.

Waiting for tests and results can be very tough but please avoid google. Whatever you read won’t change the outcome of the tests and will probably add to your anxiety. Try and wait for the results and then if you are seeking support stick to legitimate sites like the NHS as a starting point. The positivity, support and knowledge on this forum is brilliant too.

It’s great that you are keeping up with your physical activities but if you are feeling exhausted maybe try and balance that out with some rest.

Wishing you well for next week

Lisa is right, please don’t google!

Waiting and worrying is so hard. Give yourself leeway to do what you need to do, cry if you need to, distract yourself or speak to a friend or to Macmillan, who are expert at helping people wondering if they are going to get a cancer diagnosis.

Remember, the fact that your GP has fast tracked you for testing simply means they want to rule out OC first before looking at what else might be causing this.

Many of us have campaigned to get women like you taken seriously and able to get tested quickly so that should it turn out to be cancer you get the best treatment in the fasted time because that can be life saving.

I am sorry it’s so scary but your GP is doing their best for you. Hopefully everything will be negative and you will be able to breathe a sigh of relief.

Give yourself a big hug… you are strong enough and you will get through this xx

First a big hug. Waiting is horrid and scary. Please listen to the other wonderful ladies on here and don’t Google. Stuff on the internet is out of date and won’t change anything. Your GP has done the right thing. It’s important to rule stuff out before going forward. You have been fast tracked so you’re in the system. There’s loads of support on here. Try to rest and relax. Xxxxx

Hi Liane29 - similar situation to you. I have bloods on Tuesday and awaiting urgent referral for ultrasound which was requested on Friday afternoon. Sending you lots of positive vibes for this week xx

If I've understood correctly, you seem to be saying you have a coil in place which is due for replacement - your GP may have ordered an emergency scan to check on the position of the coil, whether that's causing problems, as much as checking for OC or other issues. Your feeling of constant cramp period style pain is not entirely typical of OC, but might be indicative in respect of the coil. Try not to second guess what the issue is in the meantime, you'll find out shortly as your bloods and scan are early this coming week; they may order a follow up CT scan after your ultrasound. Best to wait till you know what the problem is before researching and worrying about it...

Step away from Google, now! Unless you are an expert searcher, you will find lots of out of date information, and unless you are a statistician, the statistics are no help either. Your GP has been proactive, so be thankful that you are now in the system and will be seen promptly. We recommend distraction therapy for dealing with the awful waiting for results stage. Find nice things to do with the people you love most. Hope it turns out to be a false alarm, but at least you'll know quickly, either way.
