confusing results regarding septated cyst

hi all,

I’m not sure if I have posted in the right spot here and am new to this forum.

In the past month I have been in to see my doctor with persistent pain in my lowers left abdomen. An ultrasound was requested and the sonograpger let me know that there was a large complex cyst with solid parts.

My doctor has then asked me to get a CT scan to further asses to cyst and referred me into the gyn clinic.

This is where I’m confused. The doctor said the cyst was quite large as did the sonographer but when I saw the gyn she said it was only a small cyst 48mm x 32mm. She also said that on the CT scan it showed that the cyst was septated but good news they couldn’t see where the solid part was. The walls are slightly thicker then they should be however she didn’t tell me exactly how thick they were.

She said that it could just turn out to be an unusual functional cyst but that seems odd compared to other things said at the time.

I have been asked to get the CA125 blood test and will hear back in two weeks, after this I have to wait another six weeks before they will scan again.

Meanwhile I am in pelvic pain on and off quite frequently, have been losing my hair for months now and keep getting a burning sensation down my right leg and black eye floaters in my right eye.

I have no idea if this is related and I have no idea what the outcome of a septated cyst is or why the ultrasound and ct scan didn’t say the same things.

Any advice would be so so welcome right now.

Hmmm, well the good news is that they don’t seem overly concerned. The ca125 will give you an indication of inflammation but they may want to see if there’s any development in the mass over time.

It isn’t always clear what’s going on until they do a biopsy and they may not want to go that far without good reason. You can ask to talk to your team about it, tell them you weren’t sure what was going to happen and why and need to go over it with someone.

I wish you all the best xx

Thank you so much for your reply and time! It’s so hard waiting on results and tests to get back!

I just wish I had an idea on the likelihood o having to get this removed and waiting times.

Also I’m wondering why my ultrasound wasn’t taken more seriously over the ct scan, I thought ultrasounds produced more accurate results when the cyst is smaller.

Hi. Were you seeing a gynecologist or a gynecologist oncologist? The latter is what you need. You could push for a PET scan which shows if something is cancerous or for a second opinion. In the larger scheme of things six weeks until another scan is fairly hasty. Usually you would have to wait at least three months. So I think they are concerned but not acutely concerned. CA 125 is a good but not perfect indicator. Mine has always been low but for most people it’s an indicator. If the pain gets worse you might have to go to A&E. Keep us posted!
