micropapillary serous borderline tumours

Hello

I’m hoping to get some advice about borderline ovarian tumours. My surgeon rang to say that my histology results show I have borderline tumours on both ovaries. They are serous micro papillary type. Classified as stage 3 as a couple of peritoneal deposits and spread around the pelvis. She said the mitotic count is low ( a good thing) but there was a small micro invasion ( bad).

I’m incredibly grateful and relieved that it’s not cancer but frightened about the future. I’m 38 and a single parent and my partner and I had been trying to conceive before all this happened.

my surgeon mentioned focusing on the positives and not worrying as it won’t help but I’m finding that very hard.

I have to wait for further histology and she’s talking to oncology about whether they can spare the other ovary or not. The thought of surgical menopause and losing my fertility is terrifying me but at the same time I feel guilty as I know I should be relieved as it could be so much worse.

My friends and family all say I shouldn’t worry so much and focus on being in the moment. I’m finding this very difficult to and I’d really appreciate any advice about how others have coped.

thank you so much.

H

please do look at the Related Posts on the right of your question where you will be able to find the experience of other tealsisters in your position. You are in shock at the moment and someone to talk to may be a big help. Does your hospital provide counselling? Try the Ovacome and Macmillan helplines, too. With all good wishes, Emma x

I was in the same position as you in Dec 20 when I was diagnosed with ovarian cysts on both ovaries. Was advised to have ovaries removed in Jan 21 which as I was now 64 they were no longer needed I agreed to have done. However when they did biopsy on removal was found to be low grade borderline tumours which I had not heard of before and also my own GP dud not know about so had to go back into surgery in May 21 to have hysterectomy and omentum removed. Now bloods and follow up ever 3 months for next 10 years. It will be 2 years in May since my operations and recovery now I am helping with MacMillan cancer on a weekly basis to help others and their families dealing with cancer.

I know it is not cancer but treatment is the same and this can be very frightening and upsetting and I know you will be feeling very anxious at this time bur please try not to worry.

MacMillan and ovacome have booklets on borderline tumours and are able to help so please do give them a call to just chat as they will be able to listen and help you at this difficult time.

Please take care of yourself

Lynne

Thanks I am doing fine now nearly 2 years from last operation and no reoccurring symptoms.Take care and take time to look after yourself. I am sure everything will be fine but if you need to talk to someone I would recommend the macmillan or ovacome helpline to speak to about any worries or concerns that you have.

Wishing you all the best in your recovery.
