I know I keep asking silly questions but when you found out your results after your operation, was it by appointment or letter or phone ?? Xx

I was seen by a Consultant Oncologist whilst on the ward who gave a brief update that it had gone well but I was told by phone appointment about two weeks later followed up by a letter.

Mine was face to face a few weeks after, pretty stressful to be honest as I’d been told my husband could come with (this was during lockdown 2) and then he was turned away. Wasn’t the worst news, I had a borderline tumour, but it was hard to take it all in on my own.

The surgeon came to see me in recovery to tell me what he had done and that I would be having Avastin as a follow up.He also said that no stoma was inserted and put my hand on my abdomen.I thought it strange as I was still coming round and off to ICU.

Mine was given to me by the surgeon the day following my op. He didn’t introduce himself just said ‘I operated on you, your prognosis is not good’. That was how I had it confirmed I had OC. I was on my own, no nurse, no support until I asked who the hell he was. He left, a nurse came and then went and called my husband to come in. A macmillan nurse the following day told me I had a couple of years. I later told my consultant at another hospital not to tell me the stage/grade. I would deal with cancer. That was 15.5 years ago. Hopefully things have improved on how patients are dealt with. I later learned the stage grade (even though I could work out the stage having looked after my mum with OC) by a Harley Street Dr who was asked to do a report for my employer. He’d been told by myself, my Consultant and myGP not to mention these but the first line of his report ‘has Stage 3b HGS OC’. I sometimes wonder if ppl listen.

Oh my goodness. I had to read your post twice! I cannot imagine how this must have felt for you. I am so glad despite the poor prognosis you defied them and are here to tell the story. x

Thank you, it wasn’t the best of times but luckily I’m a very strong character and decided to fight. Having said that I read your post and you didn’t have a great experience either. I hope we are in the minority! I wish you well xx

My results were given to me over the phone which was terrifying. The surgeon told me my results but did kindly check whether I had someone with me ( which I didn't). This was during Covid times so he didn't really have much of a choice. This was probably the hardest conversation because I was trying to understand what was being said, but, my mind was in panic mode and I didn't hear much of what he said other than CANCER and chemo! I only really understood once I met with the Oncologist. I received a very full detailed letter explaining my surgery and the findings of the biopsy. My Oncologist was able to explain in more detail when I saw her. I think now that it is post Covid, you may be able to schedule a face to face appointment x

I was informed immediately after my operation. I was sent a letter later.

My surgeon visited me on the ward and said the op went well.I was told detailed results and staging about 3 weeks later, once histology etc completed I suppose . That was pre covid and a face to face meeting.
