Ive also had a loss of balance when walking and partial hearing loss in one ear so Im worrying about brain mets! Please talk me down .

Other than that, I wish all of you a peaceful Christmas with your families(or a raucous one if thats what you like )

Hi Rosebine2, don’t you just love cancer, right on top of Christmas. I can’t help with much but I too have had hearing loss in one ear, evidently chemotherapy can cause it, they’re not sure how or why. It’s a good sign that CA125 have stayed the same, try and enjoy your Christmas and dump the rubbish on here, that’s what we’re here for.

Loads of love and luck Dee xx

Hi there Rosebine2

I’m so sorry to hear that you’ve been experiencing intermittent hip pain, loss of balance and partial hearing loss in one ear - and that you’re feeling worried. Please know that we are here to support you.

It's really important that you’re able to access some personalised medical guidance regarding your symptoms, so that the cause can be identified, and any appropriate treatment can be offered in order to help address your symptoms.

You mentioned in your post that you can’t contact your oncology nurses which I was sorry to learn. However, I very much hope that another member of your clinical team will be able to provide you with some advice or reassurance instead. You could consider phoning your oncologist’s secretary (contact details can usually be found at the top of your most recent clinic letter) for a call back with a member of the team, phoning the 24/7 chemotherapy helpline number - as the nurses there may be able to contact your specialist nurses on your behalf, contacting your GP or calling NHS 111 for guidance.

If you would like to talk through anything, please don't hesitate to get in touch with us. You can send us a message here on the forum, call our support line on 0800 008 7054 or email us via support@ovacome.org.uk. We’re here Monday – Friday, 10am – 5pm, to help with queries, provide information or just have a supportive chat.

I hope you are able to speak with a member of your clinical team quickly and that you experience an improvement in your symptoms.

Best wishes

Hello Annie, thanks for your reply.I am trying to get an answer to the balance problemsIt took me 3 weeks to get a hearing test at Specsavers only to be told they couldnt do it as unaffected ear had a lot of wax " put drops in and come back in a month "(their next appointment) to get it syringed out. GP dont do that anymore. The problem is the waiting times to get seen. The hip pain has subsided again. I think Im reading more into that than I should (every little niggle). Oncology are always so busy phone just rings out, I think they are trying to get everyone sorted before Christmas!

Hi Rosebine2

Thank you for your reply. I’m really sorry you’ve been having such difficulty getting an answer to the cause of your balance problems and I hope that you can access the help you need soon.

We understand that every little niggle can be worrying for people who have had an ovarian cancer diagnosis. Whilst the festive season can be busy in hospitals, it’s still important that you can get some medical support regarding your symptoms. The PALS team at your local hospital may be able to help you make contact with your clinical team. There’s more information about how to get in touch with PALS and the support they offer patients available through this link: nhs.uk/nhs-services/hospita... .

Please don’t hesitate to get in touch again if you would like to talk through anything or if there’s any information we may be able to help you with.

Very best wishes

Woah! Rosebine! Sloow down… Don’t forget that we still get all the aches and pains that others do, on top of cancer. Take some paracetamol and some ear drops and see how you feel in a few days. You know your body.

Make a note to check out with your team but take care to give yourself time off and relaxation too xx

hi, I had hearing loss in my right ear during last chemo. On the verge of an ENT referral I went to the optician (who does hearing too!) and he found a lot of wax deep down. Once it was syringed my hearing came back. And don’t forget our ears can affect our balance too, so please try not to race ahead!!

BUT I’m not medical so please contact your team, or like Annie says try your onc secretary? I have to say mine is amazing! She gets straight onto any questions I have and usually has a reply from the man within 24 hours.

I hope you get sorted and can relax and enjoy Christmas ( or be raucous if you like!!) xx

Try not to overthink things - easier said than done, I know but I’m sure we think the worst of every ache and twinge! I have to tell myself sometimes that I’m not getting any younger and that I would probably have these odd symptoms regardless of the dreaded OC! Take things easy, get over the lurgy, try to enjoy the festivities and then follow up any worries you have. And start dreaming of that next cruise 🚢 😆. Have a lovely Christmas x

hi. I hope my post will help you. I had hearing loss in my right ear and a throbbing hip pain. Like you I started to panic. Called my Onc who said she didn’t think it was my OC but if it persists then call her. I took matters into my own hands and went to my Pharmacist who syringed my ear and voila my hearing was back and my balance returned. Next I booked an appointment with my chiropractor for my hip pain. He said I was leaning to the left and could be related to the neuropathy in my feet. After a deep tissue massage and some manipulation my hip pain disappeared. When my Onc called to see how my pain was I told her what I did and she was pleased I didn’t have the pain anymore. However she did say that almost all patients do have joint pain and immediately think it’s OC spreading. Factoring age, toxic treatment, and lack of full strength and mobility, your joints will react. So I would say try and see an Osteopath/ chropractor if you can. Also if you are able to, do some squats. They help with stretching the muscles around your hip.

It’s so difficult to try and stay calm when these things happen. However please try not to overthink this. Do speak to your team for further reassurance but I can only share what happened to me. Wishing you better x

Yep. I feel your pain, literally & figuratively!Hearing loss, balance issues & joint pains. They all come & go. The hearing loss is real & I am considering a hearing aid in near future. Chemo can cause this. I sometimes get vertigo but now do the exercises (available on Google) & it passes. I also practice yoga now which helps a lot. The joint issues can also be caused by cancer treatments and unfortunately we have to learn to live with them. Treat with paracetamol, stretching (yoga) and hot water bottle. It's so hard not to become paranoid about all of these issues & automatically think it's our old friend/enemy returning but I try to remember (as someone else said) that we will still get "other" health issues that aren't oc related. Obviously get things checked with your team when you can but in the meantime remember that "Worrying doesn't make the bad stuff go away, it just stops you from enjoying the good stuff" so go & enjoy the good stuff & have a lovely chrissy. xxxxx

Hi Rosebine2 think it's easy to panic in our situation. But l think you've had some very sound advice from Annie l contacted my Doctors secretary after getting no where with my team the last year. But apparently things have improved but l think Pals would be a good lead to follow. But l know that if l have trouble with my ears l have a balance issue. Take a deep breath and contact Pals tomorrow for some guidance. Your no different than any of us my CA125 had increased by 10 that really alarmed me but lm ok about it now, l really think you have to be in our shoes to truly understand our journey and believe me we allunderstand we all worry needlessly at times. By the same rule its best to get advice and not ignore things. Sending ❤ love & big hugs SheilaFxxx

Hi Summergold2, the hip pain disappeared so that was obviously nothing to worry about! Thanks for reply.

Im still experiencing balance problems, got fed up not being able to get a GP appointment so booked a private appointment today, only to have my GP surgery ring afterwards telling me they are referring me ! Its like buses, nothing then two at once, I bet you anything you like the appointments will be on the same day as well,! The balance problems are filling my worry quota now, cancer has taken a back seat temporarily !

Im really impressed by my Oncology dept.I left a message today about balance issues and they rang me back and have arranged for me to have a scan in February. Its not as quick as I would like (probably tomorrow if it was possible) but knowing to state of the NHS I was prepared for a much longer wait. I had made an appointment to see an ENT consultant privately so Im still going ahead with that as its still likely its not OC related.
