good news I think…

thank you to everyone who sent reassurance.

The Gynaecologist I saw today is convinced my Ca125 results are related to something that isn’t OC. She based this on a past ultrasound that said ovaries normal. She thought possibly my thyroid nodules which are being investigated in parallel.

My pains and bleeding irregularities are likely IBS and thyroid related.

You were right about the genetics testing, I’d need 2 siblings or parents with OC/BC or bowel cancer. (I have 1 half sister and Mum had a full hysterectomy very young, so I’ll never have the evidence they want. Having Ashkenazi Jewish great grandparents and a paternal grandmother with BC wasn’t enough to warrant investigating on NHS. Totally ignored the report from Ovarian Cancer Action.

She did take a uterine biopsy (ouch) and will follow up with another Ca125 in 3 months. Another gynaecologist appointment in 6 months.

Was offered a Mirena coil but have a history of depression and didn’t do well on the pill (10+years) or HRT (3 years) so will have to put up with symptoms for now. She was out of options for me after that.

Anyway thanks again, I’ll leave you lovely people in peace, i really appreciate the time and kindness. Wishing you all the very best outcomes with your treatments 🦋

I’m glad you have received good news and that you have follow-up scheduled. Take good care of yourself.

Strange what you say about a refusal of genetic testing - I only had my mother's breast cancer on record, although there was her brother and one of my dad's sisters who had cancer - neither gynecological. Yet I was tested as a matter of course it seems, and found to be negative. Good luck x

Hi there, I think you should go for a second opinion. Maybe go back to gp and ask for another ca125 test quicker than 3 months. Also the gp may be able to organise a ct scan. Remention you have Brca2 and have symptoms like ibs and bleeding. Was the ultrasound through the abdomen or transvaginal, all questions to talk to gp again. You can say you are concerned about possibility of ovarian cancer once mentioned she may re refer you. Fingers crossed all ok but maybe better re check.

I had NHGS genetic testing in 2015 based on my Dad's bowel cancer plus his brother's daughter (my cousin) needing both breasts removed before she was 60; so maybe criteria are tightening? But, I agree with Heart12345 about a second opinion. Ovacome has guidance on this, if you need it. Warm wishes. Lx
