Feeling unsteady

Wondering if Niraparib is causing me to feel slightly unsteady when out walking. This has been happening over the past fortnight. Been on Niraparib for 15 months.

I dont think its vertigo as its only slight and lasts all day whilst vertigo 2 years ago was bad enough in the mornings to have to use a stick !

Anyone experienced this?

I have been on Niraparib since Sept, 2021 and this week (Nov 23rd) started experiencing the same thing. I don't have virtigo, just light headed and also noticed when I did my balance exercises that I was much worse. I was afraid to go to my Yoge class today in case I toppled over. Ithink there is a website for Niraparib. I'm going to check and see if it says anything about being light headed.

Hello Rosebine

Is it worth getting your bloods checked? I have been on Niraparib since July this year and I started feeling unsteady and dizzy and then eventually quite breathless. Turns are my platelets and HB were very low and I needed a blood transfusion.

Hope it resolves soon for you.

Morning, I've been on Niraparib nearly three weeks and my only side effect has been heartburn. They do say any side effects should have calmed down after a couple of months so maybe not the tablets in your case. On a different note and not cancer related my mum had a similar problem to yours a few years ago and it was a problem with her ears. x

I find my balance is worse than it was but it may be my age rather than Niraparib although I feel so tired when I get neutropenic that this might be making things worse. When I had similar issues a few years ago it turned out to be a viral inner ear infection so it is worth checking out with your doctor.

Hello, yes I find that every chemo and Parp inhibitor has had that effect on me. After chemo i like to start walking but the last time I did a lot of falling into bushes too!

It has improved on the Parp so keep going, you may find it clears xx

I did wonder about the ears but if I do have an infection there are no other symptoms!

Alice77 unfortunately by the time I get an appointment with my doctor it probably will have resolved!

Thanks for the info. I have been wondering (after having a google trawl! if its something to do with the dental treatment I had a couple of weeks ago. Back molar extracted and quite a long time in the chair generally , fillings, with my mouth open !Apparently it can sometimes cause ear problems.

I managed to get a GP appointment! No diagnosis but ordered blood tests for anaemia etc. Im sure that would have been picked up on my monthy blood tests though? Ive gone partially deaf in one ear over the past few days but doc couldnt see anything wrong with eardrum etc. Im wondering if it is the Niraparib long term effects.

Hi Rosebine2

It's good that you were able to see your GP. Anaemia is a common side effect with niraparib but the blood test will confirm if this is what is happening for you. I've checked the long term side effects for niraparib and can't see hearing loss listed. Do let your doctor know if this persists even though they've already looked at your ear. They can investigate further or consider a referral to audiology if it would be helpful.

I hope this is resolved for you soon.

Best wishes

Anna
