Hi everyone, this is my first time posting, my lovely mum was diagnosed with stage 4a hgsoc in Feb this year, she had a failed surgery as the cancer was too widespread in her small bowel and unfortunately has had a poor response to her first line carbo/taxol. Today the consultant said her ct shows no improvement and ca125 has dropped only slightly, but no worsening of disease and has adopted a wait and see approach, she has ruled out parp but will put her on avastin and taxol once disease progresses. Does anyone else have experience of this wait and see approach, i cant help feeling that something else should be tried now whilst she is still well and able to see if remission is possible. I hope this makes sense and apologise for the long post, we are just all a little confused.
Stable disease: Hi everyone, this is my first... - My Ovacome
Stable disease
Hi there. I can see why you are worried. Have you looked into trials? Has your mother’s tumor been tested for mutations? Can you find out if it is positive for estrogen receptors? They have some success with aromatase inhibitors in estrogen positive OC. It probably wouldn’t get rid of the cancer but might keep it stable. You might also call the Ovacom helpline. Sending hugs. Xx
Hi I am sorry to hear that the treatment hasnt worked for your mum, I am sure she is feeling very deflated by this news. Just wondering did her consultant not suggest trying weekly taxol on its own to see if there was a better response. I think there has been plenty of ladies on here on weekly taxol but its possible the consultant thinks your mum wouldn't be able for it as I think its quite severe but its worth asking her anyway. You could get in touch with her cancer liaison nurse & ask her any questions you have. Maybe get a second opinion as her consultants hurt feelings shouldnt come into this when its your mams life & you want whats best for her. I hope that they can come up with other treatments to give your mum some hope. Best of luck & 🤞
I would get a 2nd opinion for sure just incase there is another option with fresh eye's, I got a 2nd opinion when I was told that I'd have to wait for 6 cycles then operation and it saved my life as the consultants looked at my scans and went ahead with operation after 4 cycles and it's lucky they did get it all out, oncologist advised avastin or parp for next move but 2nd opinion has advised both at the same time! Just shows how it's worth seeking out. Good luck and I'm sure something will be found
I would add to the suggestions for a second opinion. Everything to gain and nothing to lose.
