I've been going through investigations regarding ovarian cancer after a recent Ultrasound showed few abnormalities. The scan showed that my right ovary is enlarged and contains a heterogeneous lesion and appears to contain droppler flow within. I have free pelvic fluid and my endometrium is thickened (18cm). She was more concerned with my linning and explored endometriosis. I seen gynaecologist where biopsy was done. I was called days later as she said was unexpected given my age etc. I was told pre cancerous cells have been detected on her biopsy. I then had MRI scan where shows contained & no obvious concerns of being elsewhere. I seen specialist today where she said tiny focus, and precancerous changes. She said treatment options would be having mirena coil then regular biopsies/ testing then regular reviews. The other would be Hysterectomy but given I had heart condition & overweight it would be huge risk as well as only being 33. She seemed dead against idea of this right now. I've been going through this process for over two months of not knowing and been under great deal of stress with other things going on. I wish I asked more questions but just been overwhelmed like do I have endometriosis as my linning is so thick, in agony constantly, super heavy periods & Ive range of other symptoms which is what prompted me to go to GP im trying to make sense of what this means. This means no cancer? She kept making point of saying low grade and precancerous changes to cells. She also said I'm lucky to have been picked up as many wait then too late.

Hi Nattahlee
You have been trying to take in really complex information from a clinician who is probably pushed for time and not explaining it very well. No wonder you are confused.
I suggest you ask for another appointment..tell them exactly what you have written… you are confused and need to go through it again.
Take someone with you and prepare a list of questions to ask.
Remember, they have proposed options for treatment but they should only treat you with your consent. You can’t consent if you are confused about the diagnosis. You are absolutely right that this is very important to get right for your life going forward.
You are right to ask questions…keep going until you have answers you are satisfied with xx
Hiya Nattahlee sorry you’re having to go through this difficult time, the most important thing is to be sure of exactly diagnosis. Which type of cancer, ovarian, endometrial etc. Then you need to be sure you’re seeing a gynaecologist who is an oncologist or specialises in oncology to determine best route to follow. Also if Ovarian they may have done blood tests to look at tumour markers. And also they need to look into your genetics and wether you carry certain mutations that will dictate treatment plan. Ask for another appointment and maybe take someone with you to help take notes. Remember you can ask them to repeat or explain things again it’s normal to feel overwhelmed with information. Good luck and wishing you well x
Hi Nattahlee. Lyndy and Heart have given you good advice. Most importantly take someone along who can help you go over the information afterward. If it were me I would seek a second opinion. Some kinds of ovarian cancer develop from endometriosis. Even if your cells are precancerous it would be usual to have them removed. Perhaps you should talk to your cardiologist about the possibility of surgery and how you could prepare for it?
Best of luck! Xx
