It’s a while since I’ve been here but this feels like the time to come back. My first recurrence happened earlier this year, so I started chemo with carbo & caelyx in April. Unfortunately it turns out I’m as allergic to the caelyx as I was to taxol, so by the time they’d sorted out the reaction there wasn’t enough of the day left to do the full treatment. I ended up with the full carbo but only around half the taxol.
Four weeks later I had the next round - all went more smoothly that time, although I felt a bit odd during the carbo so they slowed it down.
Round 3 I had a bad reaction to the carbo, so it was all stopped, and carbo desensitisation was planned for round 4. Sadly, despite large amounts of premeds, within moments of the carbo starting I had a huge reaction, so all stopped again.
The consultant then suggested stopping chemo for this time and going straight on to rucaparib, as we’d been planning to go onto a PARP inhibitor after chemo. This leaves us more options for the future, and should hopefully work well… so now I’m just waiting for all the hoops to be jumped through and to get the tablets. Blood test tomorrow, two phone appointments on Thursday (consultant, then specialist nurse practitioner or pharmacist).
Fingers crossed this one goes to plan and doesn’t have all the worst side effects!
