Rucaparib and swollen cheeks

I’m now on Rucaparib 600mg , twice daily . The inside of My cheeks became sore and swollen whilst on Caelyx before I started Rucaparib but they seem to be worse now.

Just wondered if anyone else on Rucaparib find their cheeks to be swollen inside ??

🥰🥰

Hi , I started Rucaparib last week and it was just like being on chemo.I was very dizzy and wobbly , sweating and palpitations and sleeping a lot . My oncologist told me to stop taking them and to go to his clinic next week to have my dose reduced.

Feel so much better off them .didnt have a sore mouth or swollen cheeks.

I suppose it affects us all differently.

Hope your doctors can sort it out for you.

I’m sorry you had such severe side effects . So far 🤞I have been reasonably ok , tired and headachy but the headaches are passing . From replies below, it sounds like it’s still the Caelyx . 🥰

Hi there. I’m on Rucaparib and had to have my dose reduced after a couple of months because of blood fluctuations. I have found it so very much easier than chemo but I do get a variety of side effects and sore cheeks is one of them. Difflam helps. I also go like a beetroot in the sun even with factor 50! X

Thank you —- I also go like beetroot in the sun even with factor 50 so I now try to keep out of it — but that’s difficult this year !

Hi there , I didn't get swollen cheeks on Rucaparib but I had caelyx after and had lots of mouth problems, my last cycle of caelyx was March and the inside of my cheeks are still a bit swollen, often bite them .Cheryl x

That’s exactly what happens with me. ! I often bite my cheeks . I finished Caelyx end of April so it may still be that . Thank you — ❤️

Am nearly finished Caelyx ( 1 dose left). And first 4 was awful side effects but not swollen cheeks , more like ulcers or spots/bumps inside the cheek. Usually stay for 1-2 days then it goes. Hand sand feet was very red and cracking, very painful to walk but for 2 days usually only. They reduced my dose by 30% on the 5th round and its made such a nice difference! I never had Rucarib. I had Niraparib before which didnt worked for me.

Hello Lookingahead,

I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing sore, swollen cheeks at the moment. I can see that a number of members have shared their experiences already which I hope has been helpful. I was wondering if you'd had the opportunity to discuss your concerns with your clinical team? You could contact your clinical nurse specialist or the 24 hour chemotherapy hotline for advice. They will be able to help identify the cause of these symptoms and support you to manage them.

I do hope that this resolves for you soon. Please don't hesitate to contact the Ovacome support team if you would like to talk about this further. You can contact us by calling 0800 008 7054, by emailing support@ovacome.org.uk or through our website ovacome.org.uk.

Best wishes,

Thank you — yes, I have discussed with my oncologist but it wasn’t a symptom she had associated with Rucaparib but would flag it up as a side effect if necessary . She is prescribing a mouthwash . Looking at replies , it looks like it is a side effect left over from Caelyx which finished in April . It is strange to avoid biting my cheeks !!
