Question on Cyberknife ?

Happy Easter 🐣 to all who celebrate and To all who celebrate,Passover Happy !! I have a question . After a pet scan I was found to have a small recurrence of a tumor on my pelvis , problem is was staring to press on my urethra affecting drainage from my kidney. My oncologist works closely with a urologist in the same location and got me a sameday appointment. He immediately arranged for a procedure to alliavate the impact on my kidney . An in and out surgery, it failed and I had to check into hospital with specialized equipment for another procedure which had to be done by a radiologist, again a 15 min job . This was done 4 hours later the same day . I asked my oncologist was surgery an option she said she didn't want to subject me to a 7 plus hour surgery with a long recovery at my age , I am 77 .Frank and I talked it over and decided against it .I had another pet scan last week showed a small reduction in tumor size with taxol and my CA count has been a steady 100 . She was happy with the scan .she mention the possibility of Cyberknife or a direct infusion into the tumor with a long needle , I assume with chemo . Has any of you fellow ladies had any of these procedures ? Or are they more new approaches. When I left her office I was a lot more at ease, that the rest of the scan was clear and she was contacting the oncology surgeon to talk over options. Off to the gardencentre to choose some new plants and hope . ☺Happy and Healthy Spring to all .

Only thing similar I had was a 'ct guided biopsy I have often wondered could they take more away with the same process?? That was a day admission. Wishing you well. Hope they get you sorted soon. X

A friend had this… I get the impression it’s like very targeted radiotherapy? Please keep us posted if you go ahead with it xx

Thanks Lyndy , do you know if your friend ,s was a success? My wonderful oncologist is very competent and wants what the least taxing on my body , she is married to a surgeon and I'm sure she bounced it off him .She is going to do more Research, I see her again next week..Will keep you updated

Hi Gillian, it might be worth researching if there is a wonder surgeon who could do an op by keyhole whereby your recovery would be so much faster and easier. I had a 10 hour keyhole op last October by 2 wonder surgeons, gastrointestinal and Gynaecology. Only 5 x one centimetre incisions and no pain. 10 days in hospital. 76 years. I was very tired for 6 weeks but that was all.

Hi Tri ckysite, I get the impression that it is in location is a problem. If keyhole surgery is an option, I certainly will ask her , she is open to questions. Ten days in hospital doesn't sound like too much fun, don't get much sleep there .Will update on progress, in the meantime the tumor has shrunk after only two infusions of Taxol which is good .

Great news about the shrinking! My surgeon at University College Hospital London could not do my op by keyhole so I had to go to one of the few, or possibly the only guys, who could who were based at Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford. It takes a lot of searching to find a surgeon with the particular skill so I would not be put off by a few initial It can’t be done that way! Considering they took out about 6 organs inc. half my stomach, I reckon 10 days in hospital was getting off lightly! It was a superb hospital on NHS and I am sure I would have been in for longer if done the normal way.
