Backache

I have recently stopped taking Rucaparib as it was not working, but before starting third line chemo, opted to delay for a couple of months, as I was feeling well.

In the last month or so, I seem to have a permanent back ache, which even hurts when I am in bed. Had anyone else experienced this as a result of their ovarian cancer, or should I be looking for issues with my back?

I should add that I have damaged my back in the past, and needed to see an osteopath, but once treated I have been fine. I am just wondering if I should perhaps start the chemo sooner rather than later.

Thats interesting because I am on Rucaparib and I often get top of thigh and hip pain. It can be really acute at times.

Thank you. I will discuss with the oncologist when I next see him.

Hi Jenny. Sorry you’re having to have chemo again. I complained of mid backache at the beginning of my first recurrence, it also woke me up in the night, I had it for a few months, I was so worried it had spread to my bones. My oncologist referred me for a bone scan and I had wear and tear in my spine, when I found out this I seemed to stop worrying and it seemed to stop aching so much, shows how much stress makes us worse. Good luck with your treatment xx

Yes I know. I think every little ache etc is cancer in a new form. I actually had a DEXA scan a couple of weeks ago, as one of the treatments my onc suggested would deplete the calcium in my bones, so it will be interesting when we get the results of that.

Hi Jenny

Sorry to hear you're struggling.

Weirdly, I stumbled on a discussion in another forum yesterday.

I'll copy and paste the Q&A below...

Q. Hi Everyone-

Is back pain a thing with this?

The oncologist didn’t think it was related to the lymph nodes- not sure if it’s covid, cancer, chemo or hysterectomy 😵‍💫🥺😫… any tips?

A. Hiya #####

How weird how we always suffer with the same things haha.

I questioned my oncologist about this and he said my lower back pain was from the hysterectomy.

He explained it to me being that women pre-hysterectory have a curved spine, however when you have a hysterectomy your spine & ribs fall & your hips widen making your spine straighter, this causes the back pain as your body is adjusting to a different position.

I thought it was actually really interesting and never knew this before!

Hopefully this will be of help
