Possible Ovarian or Bowel and I’m scared and exhausted!

Hi Everyone,

Sorry for the long post I'm about to do but I just feel I need to write it all down. First a little background. I am overweight and I have PCOS, I have had it for over 20 years and have had no medication for it and I have 3 children, all by c-section. About 5 years ago I started getting horrible pains in my lower pelvic area. I got admitted into hospital and a lot of test were done, they put it down to a bust cyst at the time and they also investigated my bowel too. Nothing was conclusive. I have this pain on and off since then and always put it down to PCOS. However, the middle of November the pain was so bad I took myself to the GP. He organised a lot of bloods and referred me for an ultrasound, which I am still waiting on. He dipped my urine then as I had been having the urge to go a lot more often, especially at night. My CA125 test came back at 20. All other bloods were fine. Fast forward to the week before Christmas and I thought I had a urine infection as I was in agony when I needed to pee and go to the toilet. I ended up taking 3 antibiotics and my urine came back clear from the lab. Went back to the docs because I was still in pain and starting to really get me down. He put me on stronger painkillers and gave me an antibiotic as he thought I may have Diverticulitis. I was feeling bloated, can only eat small amounts, decreased appetite, peeing constantly, went from being regular to constipated and my period had changed from very heavy and painful to painful and light! He was at a lose. I phoned the next day as I was in agony and he got me seen at the surgical assessment unit. They have now arranged a CT scan with contrast for this coming Monday and I have just had a blood test for celiac disease and I have also to do a QFIT test to check if there is any blood in my stool. They said it's a process of elimination just now. I am looking like I am 7/8 months pregnant when I stand up and it's hard to touch just above my belly button. Also the lightest I've been in years...which is a bonus but not how I wanted to loose it.

I'm just worried, and I am one of these people that likes to know everything about something so I can prepare mentally but still hope for the best.

Thank you for listening, I hope everyone is doing well xx

Hello, sorry to hear that you have all this worry. It’s scary when you have pain and then someone says they don’t know what it is.

But you are in the best hands now, they are running diagnostic tests and they will find out what is wrong.

Don’t forget that Doctors always start with the worst possible things and work backwards! As patients we hate the fear and uncertainty this brings. Instead of focusing on what it might be…you have no control over that… try to think about how you can get yourself through this period of time.

Be really kind and forgiving to yourself and ask others for support.

Macmillan’s service is available to you… you don’t need an actual diagnosis to ring. The Ovacome helpline is there too for support and questions.

Even if the worst does happen, you are not alone xx

Thank you for the quick reply. I know you are right and I’m grateful that they are doing all the tests to find out what’s wrong. I was very persistent about getting to the bottom of it. I think through fear and it’s my body and I’m the only one who can fight for it xx

Your doing all the right things having all the right tests and they will get through them all and find out your problem. At least if its anything your getting checked out and not ignoring symptoms which a lot of us have done lm afraid.

So if you fo have anything they will find it and sort it for you your on the ladder . Just let them go through the different tests. Try not to worry

I know its not easy. And if it makes you feel any better ring ovacome for advice there excellent.

But keep doing what your doing, if you dont feel

well we know our own bodies .

Sending love ,& hugs Sheila F xxxx

You are nearly there in terms of something conclusive. After 3 c.sections you may well have adhesions and internal scar tissue causing you such pain and complications and on top of that you have poly cystic ovaries so everything in that area may well be causing all the symptoms you are experiencing. It sounds like they trying to get you sorted but the wheels of investigation move slowly. Keep you mind as occupied as you can with other stuff.

Ring any of the cancer helplines to chat over your concerns and be prepared to chase up the results and appointments if not made for you.

Wishing you well and speedy results.xc

Thank you all for the advice. It really is appreciated. I’m just counting down the days til I have the scan, taking one day at a time and trying to keep my mind busy and trying not to think about things and stressing out. It’s rather difficult tho, when I look about 7/8 months pregnant, morning noon and night and I’m losing about a pound a day but feeling fatter…it’s crazy xx

Being an optimist , with your CA 125 at 20, it's unlikely to be Ovarian or Bowel. Can also be a case of benign ascites . Naimish
