Hi could anyone recommend if a permanent drain in the lung for ovarian cancer is better than having it drained when needed. My mum has had a problem with this fluid building up in the cavity of the lung she is in hospital and they said she can have a permanent one where they drain it like a tap but are there any complications like infection really appreciate some advice as we really don’t know much about this many thanks xx

Yes it’s better than having a new incision each time…draining little and often doesn’t crash your blood pressure in the same way but yes there is a risk of infection. Seek support from a resp specialist team if you can x
