CA125 went down after pleural effusion drainage? Mother is scheduled for PE thoracentesis next week. Is it possible that CA125 will go down after fluid drainage?

I think it’s unlikely to affect the ca125 because PE is a side effect rather than the actual cancer but it will make your mum feel a whole lot better! I felt much more up to chemo once my lungs were drained.xx

Hi Lyndy. I found in some scientific papers that even people with non malignant PE can have very high CA125 numbers in fluid itself and in blood serum as well - after thoracentesis numbers came back normal or at least much lower values. What were your symptoms of PE - my mother can not make deep breath - so if she is resting more or less is normal - but if she try to make steps very hard. Thanks

Yes I felt like that..ok at rest but as soon as I tried to walk upstairs for example...v breathless. I had a cough too. Hope your Mum finds a way forward sooner rather than later xx
