I changed mine , just went for a private consultation with another one at the same hospital. Just knew I wouldn’t get along with the first one .

People usually say ask for a second opinion but you may have to go to another hospital for this. I found my oncologist was rather brusque and unhelpful. I didn't change but sometimes wish I had when every time she speaks to me she puts on this exasperated tone. People here and running this site will be able to give you advice about how to change.

Hi there i had a very arrogant (but good) oncologist when i first set out but he was so negative and blunt to the point he seemed to enjoy the bad news. He particularly upset my husband so I chatted to my oncology nurse and she said it was ok to ask to change, so i now see a lovely lady oncologist within the same team. I felt a bit uncomfortable at first but she is perfect for me firm but fair and a bit more encouraging. I never looked back and one size doesn’t fit all some people love him and thats goodHope that helps

Hi, assuming you are in the UK then speak with Patient Liason (PALS) who shouldbbe able to help you do this. PALS helped me when I just didnt find that my onc and I were a good fit. x Good luck xx Kathy

Hello TerrileeLoughlin

Thank you for your post. I can see that you've already had some helpful replies from other forum members. Our post on second opinions at healthunlocked.com/ovacome/... explains how to seek a second opinion and, if you decide to, to transfer your care to another specialist.

I hope this is helpful, and please get in touch with us if you need any further information.

Best wishes

Julia

Thankyou everyone for your help. I'm not (I believe) in a position to need help as I'm NED, but I never speak to the same oncologist twice, and they dont answer my questions. I want to switch from the mount Vernon, to the royal Marsden. Maybe it will be the same there 🤷‍♀️.

Did you manage to change your oncologist? If so, would be interested to hear how it’s been for you x

For me it was a game changer. I had a wonderful oncologist already. But the local facilities in Devon where I live had nothing more to offer me. So I sought help in London.

From experience, it’s crucial you have a good and trusting relationship with your oncologist.

If you want a second opinion you can either ask them directly, you can ask your GP to refer you, or you can book a private appointment (which I did), mainly for speed. I can wholeheartedly recommend Consultant Jon Krell in London at Imperial. He also works with Christina Fotopoulou. He works at a private clinic too. I spent 45 minutes with him and was a game changer. PM me if you’d like any more info.
