Struggling with ascites how are you coping?

Ascites, ovarian cancer

The ascites is not very nice, I’ve been drained off 3 times now 6.5 - 4.5 and 5 litres, it’s a relief when it’s drained.

The best result was the last one, had it drained on the Tuesday and started taxol on the Thursday in mid June, finished chemo a few weeks ago and started letrozole last week, so far no ascites, long may it continue.

You feel like you are 9 months pregnant so darn uncomfortable, getting out of the chair was an art form lol

Thankyou for your reply. I had my 2nd drain this week, 6,5 litre removed, 2nd Carbo/taxol due in about 11 days. Hopefully it will ease!

Tummy feeling very crampy and spiky this time!

Let’s home the dose of chemo will keep it down and going forward it stays that way.

I had carbo/ taxol with Avastin for my first round, it worked well, but unfortunately the Avastin alone could not maintain it after I had my 18 chemos So I only managed 7 months remission

Have you had any surgery? I’m to have 3 cycles of chemo and then a rescan to see if surgery would be next

I’m just fed up of pain at the moment!

Hi Julie

No I was refused a de-bulk due to them finding a chest lymph node that they said was cancerous, I’ve never had a problem with it and they now say it’s asleep !!!! So I don’t know ?? Was it ever awake I ask myself ??

I feel I was just too advanced to give surgery to, stage 4 advanced aggressive PPE ???

When I asked last time she said they would have to open my chest too and for all that I would only gain a few months in time so we didn’t get an option really.

You really shouldn’t be suffering with pain, have you spoken to your CNS or palliative care team , pain can be so debilitating when it’s ongoing, try to speak to someone, don’t suffer in silence.

Thankfully I think it might have trapped air as I literally felt it move😳 it’s only 2 days since the drain so I think it’s just taking time too settle.

Thankyou for sharing your ‘story’, I’m not sure what PPE though, excuse my ignorance,

That good news Julie, hopefully you will start to feel better quite soon.

PPC is Primary peritoneal Cancer (sorry for my earlier typo )Which is a rare cancer on the thin lining of the abdomen, the lining is called the peritoneum, it is made up of the same cells as the most common type of ovarian cancer, it is diagnosed and treated the same way as ovarian cancer.
