Priorities in lockdown

I’m surprised how some of my priorities have changed in the past few weeks. I’ve been self isolating for a while, though my shielding letter didn’t finally arrive till this week. I grumble because I can’t go out in this sunny weather. But I get excited when I manage to succeed in getting a slot for delivery from a local supermarket, & immediately contact my daughter with the good news! Di.

Ps I also couldn’t wait to post on Facebook when I finished a cross stitch I think I started about 3 years ago!

Yes - I totally agree about the heady excitement around getting a recurring delivery slot. I think it’s about gaining a little independence. I realised that I always felt at other (kind) people’s behest, & sometimes feel like an expensive, non-productive liability, in this Covid19 journey! Especially when so many are putting their lives at risk to help others.

And, you have now inspired me to search out my very well-travelled tapestry, which I’ve been (not) doing for 25 years plus! So thank you for that, & my very best wishes xx

Yep the excitement is real! Playing board games, dominoes, scrabble. Reading books and then I got (I had pleaded at the beginning) access to work from home....now its a case of ‘be careful what you wish for’!!! x

Hi Di. I totally get your post lol. I have shielded since the begining on the advice of my Oncologist and had to fight my gp to get a shielding letter which eventually came from my Oncologist. I never used any form of food delivery and my daughter is nearby and keeping us going but the other day I managed to get a delivery slot for some bits for the freezer and found that exciting..... I need a life lol, in fact we all do but hopefully things will return to normal eventually!

I contacted my gp surgery twice before eventually getting my shielding letter. I went via the surgery because I was asking on behalf of my husband too. just before lockdown he was in hospital with his third heart attack in less than a year & should have had a letter immediately. I agree on the need to get a life - it's got a bit much when the most exciting events are when I succeed in getting a supermarket delivery slot! Roll on when I can go out myself. Di

I've never had a shielding letter, even now - but I signed myself up on the government website to tell them I was shielding/vulnerable some weeks back. Two weeks later I did it again, and within a week I had an email from Waitrose saying they'd been notified of my situation and I now get priority slots. Strangely, I also had an email from Iceland offering me a delivery, but I've never ever bought anything in Iceland, online or instore, so I thought that was a bit odd... Tesco, on the other hand, have not been in touch at all to offer me any slots, despite my having shopped online with them before. Not impressed, Tesco...

But still no letter... though its extra to requirements now really.

As for lockdown, to be honest, I'm quite enjoying it - its been lovely having either no or very low air pollution, really noticeable, both to look outside and in terms of breathing- for the first time in a year or so, I'm not wheezing at all, even with the windows wide open, and I can breathe through my nose. I shall be sorry when lots of cars start moving around again...
