Hi Hun,

Can’t remember how much Ascites I had removed.....but a lot. They gave me Omaprezole, and blood transfusions (2) one tab a day, ask if that is appropriate for you ? and my appetite returned, just a bit, better than nothing.

Just wish you all the best,

Carole xx

Hi Ann, I had a drain last week and it went down more or less straight away. I've had another one this week (only 3 litres this time) and there's no perceptible difference in my tum just in my ability to move. Xx

It usually takes 2 to 3 days for my fluid levels to reduce completely after a drainage, however mine reaccumulates from then again.

I usually have a tap before the volume reaches 4 litres as it is less strain on my body and easier to recover. ( Every 15- 21 days) I try and support my kidneys and liver function to slow the swelling as much as possible.

I know there is risk with each drainage, but I think that the pressure on organs with that much fluid is more harmful.

It's hard to remove all of it because it can pool in 'pockets' that the drain doesn't reach. I had 7.5 litres drained but still had more left - however the relief was wonderful and I was able to eat and breathe again, luxury. I had to stop myself from overeating because my stomach wasn't used to coping with normal amounts of food any more.

After that, the body can start to reabsorb the rest of the fluid but that needs to be helped along with chemo, usually. Alternatively the tumours carry on producing more ascites.

Fun all the way.

I had 8 litres drained 2018 May and op in September. My tummy still hasn’t gone down. Still get a pain in my left ovary but I’m told it’s normal. I’m quite aged so my tummy may never go down. I hope yours will.

Love to you

All the best with your chemo on Friday. I have mine on Monday 23rd. Not sure it's a good idea so close to Christmas but scared stiff a delay cold have an effect on the results.

My love to you
