Port fitting tomorrow

I’m having my port fitted tomorrow and have been told that it will be sited on [my] left of chest. However is there a “best” place to have it sited-presume you want to a void bra straps but also wondering as I carry a rucksack frequently if this needs to be considered? Any thoughts?

Dear Marion, I have twice had a port fitted on my left of my chest. I often carry a rucksack with no problems and I haven’t noticed any interference with bra straps either. Wonderful things these ports. All the best for your treatment. Sarah

I second Sarah's comments. It will be uncomfortable for a few days, but you'll probably find that you forget all about it! In the unlikely event that you get a bit of discomfort, a little bit of extra padding (old sock) on your rucksack strap maybe? I do think your rucksack would have to be awfully heavy before you felt it - I'd be more worried about your back at that point 😁! Enjoy your new port, they are amazing little things.

My port was located UNDER my left breast. Kinda anchored to my ribcage. It was primarily for my IP chemo treatments. It was a bit uncomfortable having it there but it was removed 2 months after treatment was over.

Mrs Round, you will want to avoid any straps, especially a back pack, rubbing or pressing on port. Mine is left side below collarbone and above breast. In US car seat belts go across left shoulder so I have a tiny pillow wrapped around seatbelt to keep belt away from port. You will LOVE your port! You'll forget it's there. No more digging into your veins. 👍😊❤
