Hi all,

Not sure if this can only be viewed in Australia, but thought I'd share anyway.

Jill Emberson is an ABC radio broadcaster diagnosed with OC about 3yrs ago. She is an incredibly proactive campaigner in raising awareness about how desperately more funding is needed for research & trials, even though she has now progressed to Stage 4 herself.

Jill is one of the founders of Pink Meets Teal (PMT) bringing breast cancer survivors uniting with ovarian cancer sufferers to call for more OC research. In Australia, FOUR times more funding is spent on breast cancer research than OC. As one GP here said "it's time to shift the focus away from the breasts to below the waist". In the past ten years alone BC five year survival rates has increased from 70% to 90% purely due to funding - which is fantastic! Let's hope with more funding our little group will achieve the same brilliant results.

It's all about the money!!

Love, Ruth

PS ..... just announced short while ago on the radio our government has contributed another AUD $15m (AUD $20m in April) towards OC trials - this has only happened after Jill's meeting with the Health Minister for the program that is being aired tonight! Yay .... it's a start!

That’s brilliant. Another step forward. And with the discovery of the BRCA Mutation, so often Breast and Ovarian cancer are tied together.

We need so much more- and funding for awareness, too.

Hugs,

Laura

Thanks so much for posting this.

I have just watched the episode on line here in the uk at abc.net.au and it is easiest the best documentary I have seen on the subject of Ovarian Cancer.

And what a very interesting angle on advocating for equitable funding. I must admit to having had a bit of a moan myself about the focus on breast cancer being unfair but then felt ashamed.

But Jill Emberson has handled the message so sensitively and achieved fantastic results.

Surely this is something that would be equally applicable and effective in the UK?

What about it Ovacome?
