mucinous ovarian cancer

hello, I have had total hysterectomy oofrectomy and my appendix removed all at once, then I went septic and they had to open me up again within 3 days of the first surgery! found an abcess on the spot where they removed my ovary, my cancer is a rare one, called mucinous that no chemo works on this type of ovarian cancer so they are just monitoring me every 3 months, and oct will be 3 months since my last ct scan that came back ok, now I am worrying because I have some pain on my left side on the right side of my belly button, and it seems to be swelling a bit, but I have gained a bit of weight could it be that the weight I gained has something to do with the pain? I am on holiday right now and will be returning home end of sept, but if this pain persists I may cut my holiday short and head to the hospital! I am very scared that this cancer is going to return and that I will have to have another surgery! my last surgery was in end of march! anyone else out there experiencing this type of cancer?? would love some other input!

Hi!

There are a few of us around with mucinous - I'm sure the others will pop in soon. Of course none of us will know what exactly your pain is, anymore than you do - it's difficult isn't it! Sometimes there can be adhesions which can cause pain and I'm sure there are other things too. Where do you live in the world? and are you on holiday in a country where you could pop to a hospital, explain the situation and see if someone can examine you?

live near Ottawa Ontario, and no, the island I am vacationing on does not have a good hospital, they send everyone to St John hospital and haven't heard good things about that place so I think I might head home early, it is not a constant pain I am getting, it goes away when I lay down and this morning it isn't too bad, so hopefully it was just because I did too much walking on the beach with my dogs hopefully!

I also have Mucinous OC. As you say your pain could be related to your weight gain or it could be adhesions related to your two surgeries and the abscess.

What stage and grade are you? I am aware that Mucinous is resistant to chemo but it can have some effect on the tumours. I am currently having chemo for lung mets and the chemo seems to be shrinking the lesions.

Maybe see how you go and if the pain and swelling persists you may need to be reviewed.

I was stage 3 not sure of the grade, they never said anything about that

As the others have said there are a few of us with mucinous OC.

I would suggest you put mucinous in the search box. You will find several threads discussing this type.

Again the pain could be stranding after the op. I think we become hyper sensitive to any pain or discomfort in that area after diagnosis.

It might be adhesions from the op, or possibly a hernia. Maybe worth checking for that? Deb x

Hi,

I was diagnosed with mucinous oc in November last year after having a radical hysterectomy. I have experienced left sided pain as you describe, and have also got the abdominal swelling as well. My oncologist was convinced initially that this was due to my bowels not working as well as they used to, but the problem persisted after I was using laxatives and they started working again.

The pain gets so bad now that it goes into my groin. I have just had another blood test and am going for a ct scan on the 18th Setember.

I am actually planning to go to see my gp today, because I have been planning to return to work next week (I work with special needs teenagers who can be quite aggressive), and need a return to work note. Quite frankly, I am dreading it going back!

I think it would be a good idea to go back to your doctor and ask for a ct scan. We worry about every ache and pain don't we - but it's better to get it checked out, and also have a bit of emotional support as well. Let us know how you get on,

thank you for your thoughts, yes we do worry about every ache and pain, I am scheduled for another ct scan oct 9th, will see what they say after that, hoping that you feel better too! we all need to stick together and support each other, I have wonderful family but they have no idea what I am going through every day! thank you! take care
