Not sure if any of you are BGT fans, but on last night’s show, Simon Cowell was seen holding a strange white device in front of his face. This was, in fact, a £10 mini air con USB chargeable fan, which I’ve since found out is sold through fanu.co.uk
Now...I got just a little bit excited, because, despite being only 35 with one ovary still hanging on in there; since suffering my little run in with my Gynae Onc’s surgical knife 2 years ago (& a little bit before then too) I seem to suffer the most god awful ‘menopausal type’ hot flushes & usually at the most inopportune times, whilst out in public. (I get these too, at home and during the night, but it’s slightly easier and less embarrassing to deal with in private...you can strip off quite easily for a start!)
Anyway, I read up about these little fans and it seems they were designed by a Mum & daughter combo after the daughter very sadly was diagnosed with having breast cancer shortly after the birth of her first son and consequently suffered the raging hot flushes her chemo and radiotherapy treatment caused. So I’ve decided to buy one and see what they’re like. Very happy to let you know what it’s like once I’ve got it as I’m sure I’m not the only one out there suffering, especially in all this muggy weather we seem to be having lately (which certainly doesn’t help!!)
Love and light to you all,
Jemima 💋

Oh that would be great if you report back, Jemima! It was so stuffy in my office today that even my non-menopausal colleagues were having hot flushes! We kept on fanning each other to cool down 😂
Thank's for that info Jemima - I wondered what Simon was holding (and he had a pink one tonight)
Have just ordered myself one as I'm worrying about the hot train and hot waiting rooms doing this through the summer - especially as i get 'burning face' after the carbo.
It was bugging me what he was holding! Thank you, going to order two one for me and one for my brother who has a serious heart condition and can’t abide the heat. Brilliant!
I'd like to know how effective they are, these fans.I used to carry one of those battery operated ones with little plastic vanes that whizz round just for hot flushes, which drove me mad; they were every 2 hours 24/7 from 47 years old right up to 58 years old, when at least I started to get 4 hours in between, sometimes even a day or two. I'm 68 now, but still get them every now and then, certainly at night (every 2 hours when its warm, like the last few nights) and there's nothing worse than a massive flush on a hot day, there's no way to get cool. They are slightly increased since my debulking surgery I notice, even at my age. Be careful with herbal remedies for hot flushes like red clover and soy - the isoflavones in those mimic oestrogen in the body, which is fine so long as your cancer wasn't hormone sensitive, but might not be if it was, so that's a question for your doctors.
When I was in my late forties, I bought a 12" desk fan to keep on the bedside table - I used to flick it on when a flush started in the night and lay there, starfish like, to ease the flush. Which is fine at home, but not much good during the day...
I've ordered one too as my hot flushes have got worse after treatment and I am 67!! I was hoping they were on their way out before I was diagnosed last year. Many thanks for bring this to our attention.
