Hi ladies it’s been 9mths since getting a permanent ileostomy due to Ovarian Cancer

I’m currently on caelyx chemo and since starting treatment have developed a problem with ‘trapped wind’ in chest after I eat certain meals it leaves me with either uncontrollable burps or hiccups for up to 2 hours after eating. Oncologist prescribed omeprazole which helped a bit but I’m trying to work out is it the chemo or the ileostomy?

Did any of you lovely ladies who were or are on caelyx get this problem ? Thanks

I have just started on carbo/caelyx for a recurrence aand I have found that I am getting a lot of heartburn even though I take Nexium daily

Hi, I've had quite a bit of Caelyx as 3rd treatment and Carbo/Caelyx as 5th line now just started 6th line and this is Carbo/caelyx again, Caelyx has proven to give me good results ,

yes one of the side effects is heart burn and wind, I 've never had hiccups before and now do. For the heart burn I take double strength Mylanta it helps.

I hope you do well on Caelyx..Take care Lorraine xx

Hi I too have ileostomy and had caelyx/carbo lasts year with exactly the same problem! I’m now on 3rd line carbo/taxol weekly and have had chronic indigestion and pain. This time I have been put on 30mg Lanzoprazole gastro-resistant capsule. The Colorectal surgeons at my hospital apparently recommend these for patients with an ileostomy. I have only been on them 3 days and have had such relief. Good luck with your treatment xx

Thanks everyone this makes me feel less concerned xx

I have an iliostomy. I have not been on caelyx but am on a clinical trial on chemo pills and get hiccups and constant retching when taking the pills but it improves when not taking them. Have tried omeprazole but it didn't make any difference. So in my opinion it is the chemo causing it.

Hi, when I was having Caelyx I had extreme nausea, even with anti-sickness tablets. Doctor said it was caused by acid reflux, caused by the steroids. I was given omeprazole and was fine after taking it.

Could be something similar going on?
