Hi,

I’m currently going through diagnosis stage at the moment.

I went for ivf had an initial transvaginal scan to check ovaries. Showed a cyst.

Went back after my period and had another scan. The sonographer said that she could see blood in the cyst. Referred back to gp and she requested a ca125.

Had an appointment with gp had ca125 and then had the results back.

Ca125 raised at 66 put on urgent referral pathway to be seen within 2 weeks. Had a transvaginal scan today.

My gp also said my kidney bloods weren’t what they should be but didn’t divulge much info.

Sonographer said she couldn’t see any blood in the same cyst however I now have 2 other cysts. One with blood but probably just because it’s ovulation. She said she would probably just see me in 6 weeks. She said they are simple cyst.

I have a consultation with the gyn onc for a follow up on thu.

I’m feeling very stressed by all of this.

I have symptoms

•bloating

•pain in my right side

•fatigue

•urgent toilet habbits

•headaches

Etc

I’m worried now they are just going to leave it another 6 weeks. My mind is spinning I have a young son and the stress of all this is too much.

I’ve attached a letter as it says I have fluid and I don’t really know what significance it is ?

What would you do?

Hi Ko,

First ovarian cysts are filled with fluid depending on the cause for the cyst to occur - the fluid inside varies. Blood in the cyst could be indicative of endometriomas - a cyst that can be found (primarily) in individuals who suffer from endometriosis. These cysts, like most cysts, are mainly benign - though do have the potential to transform into malignant clear-cell or endometrioid cancer though that's rare and typically occurs in atypical endometriomas.

The symptoms of ovarian cysts and ovarian cancer are typically the same.

CA125 is an unreliably measure to detect ovarian cancer - as it just measures a protein inside the ovarian cells (and other cells as well). Since you do have documented cysts - you have more ovarian cells - which can increase the number. Along with many other factors - such as inflammation, surgery, GI issues, and infections. [I have PCOS and have had my CA125 elevated from cysts].

If these are endometriomas - surgical removal of them is an effective fertility-enhancing, that may allow you to conceive naturally.

Wishing you the best on Thursday,

Kris x.

Hi Ko

Try not to panic... it does not seem like they are overly worried just now and you have a plan in place. It is hard to be patient and wait.

If you do feel in your intuition (rather than panic mode) that something might be up, I would ask to speak to your CNS and explain your worries. They are there to help you so make use of their experience. You can also seek a second opinion if you are not happy with the treatment or options you are being offered.

Having a second opinion was probably the best thing I did through this journey, but if you are happy with your Surgons and Doctirs, trust their plan.

Good luck, Nicky x
