My mom was/is either pre-diabetic, or early stage diabetic (likely induced from the steroids from Chemo), but I had found that research on Metformin, and Cancer, so I pushed to have it prescribed by her regular doctor. This was about 2 years ago, but she did still have a recurrence just recently. It's impossible to say whether the metformin delayed the recurrence or not. In any event, it does help to keep her glucose levels down.

It's a very safe, and tolerable drug, and it's apparently very cheap, so I think it would be safe for cancer patients to try, even if they didn't have diabetes. Of course, I would still strongly recommend getting the advice of your PCP, or Oncologist first.
