Ladies with my unfortunate reoccurrence of OC I will probably be given Caelyx (liposomal doxorubicin) I’ve been given literature but has anyone had this particular chemo treatment & would you mind telling me your personal experience of it good & bad.

My own experience was 😵😱😬. After only two treatments ( and second one 25% reduced) , it was stopped as I felt terrible, emotionally and physically I had weight and muscle mass loss, CA 125 went through the roof, scan evidence of increased disease spread.... of course I also got the itchy skin, esp on my feet but that I could cope with.
But PLEASE don't let that put you off. For many women this is the drug that works wonders and I think my consultant was upset for me that it had such an adverse effect....
Thankfully weekly taxol soon after worked for me instead.
Until you have it you have no idea which way it is going to work for you....and you have to give it a try! Just monitor, date and write down any symptoms good or bad .
I think this is the most difficult part of this disease - finding the right chemo. We all respond in such different ways, it's impossible to predict for someone.

Hi. For my first recurrence I had a carbo/caelyx combination every 4 weeks and I found it really tolerable. I even continued working in between treatments. I usually had a couple of days of nausea but escaped the mouth sores and other horrid side effects that other ladies have. My skin did get very dry so every couple of days I would soak in a bath with Epsom salts and coconut oil. My hands didn’t become sore but I couldn’t hold onto hot things - cups etc - I still have to ask for 2 cups if I get a takeaway coffee.
Having said that you won’t know until you start - these chemo drugs seem to be so different for everyone. I’m now on carbo/gem and lots of ladies have advised that they tolerated it well whereas I’ve only had one round and I’ve had a terrible time with constant nausea.

I finished this drug in combo with carboplatin in June of last year for 2nd recurrence and I personally found this very doable,even managed a week in Portugal mid way.Myadvice is to moisturizer and keep as hydrated as you can. Having said all that we all tend to respond to drugs differently. Take care Pam x

My mum is on number 5 dose. She had very bad hands and rash on her side, to the point she ended up at A&E. They gave her steroid creme, delayed her next chemo and reduced the dose by 15% which improved the side effects. Midway scan was positive but strangely her ca-125 had gone up after the 4th dose.
Skin on her feet has peeled off and she's had a bit of tiredness

HI, I have bad Caelyx and yes some of the side effect can be bad but all manageable ,if you have a side effect the main thin is to see your team about treatment do not let it get out of control, The dry skin plenty of moisturizer, the rush and blister steroid cream is a great help
Remember we all react to chemo differently for me Caelyx has been my best chemo with good results I hope it's the same for you Take care Lorraine xx

I found carbo caelyx by far the easiest of my 4 regimes, even managing Tai Chi on chemo days. Be prepared is my motto with it.
Hi. I had carbo/caelyx 4-weekly for recurrance last year, and I didn't have severe side effects at all, just minor issues. My daughter's wedding came in the middle of treatment and though I got tired, it wasn't debilitating. I also started twice-weekly exercise classes at a cancer rehabilitation gym whilst on chemo. That said, we're all different, so to be honest, it's impossible to predict how you will react. I hope you sail through successful treatment. x
More of the same response from me too - I had only minor side effects (mainly constipation from the Carboplatin) but my cancer tumours had a mixed response - some shrunk and some continued to grow. I'm doing better on weekly Taxol but it's early days. I hope your body responds well to Caelyx but if it doesn't, your team will look for an alternative. But only think positive thoughts at this stage. Good luck!
