3 month update

Well my mom went in for her first check up today since finishing first-line treatment. This time it was with gyne oncology; though it will alternate every 3 months from chemo oncologist to gyne oncology. Technically it was suppose to be a three month checkup; though it ended up being two months after chemo, ha (delayed the start of chemo by two weeks for vacation; and had to skip a week). Oh well.

We saw the physician assistant, who seriously must have hyperthymesia as she remembered mundane tidbits about us from five months ago. Gave mom a pelvic exam (all clear) and was putting in an order for a CT scan (mom wanted it for piece of mind).

PA also printed out moms diagnosis and treatment information; apparently a new protocol with the hospital, as it is a research university hospital. PA was going over the information, and when she came to staging said Stage 4. Mom and I looked at each other before having a mini panic attack. Turns out, she was just going from memory not files (maybe she doesn't have hyperthymesia after all), after confirming with CTs changed it back to IIIB (phew)!

Turns out mom had a portion of her pancreatic tail removed during debulking too, which was news to us. Doc found a cyst on the tail, and since she had cancer /on/ her spleen, thought better safe than sorry. Thankfully, pathology came back benign.

Oncology appointment is scheduled for next week, where she will also get CA125 done. Hopefully the anxiety isn't quite as bed next week as it was today.

On a side note, mums friend had surgery for her first occurrence of ovarian cancer (2 years NED from IIIC); turns out it was contained to just her appendix, so doc was able to get it all. She's probably going back on chemo sometime; but we are all pretty happy about the surgical outcome!

Hope everyone else is doing well,

Kris x

Had to look up the meaning of hyperthymesia! It’s amazing what you find out weeks / months later that which was never mentioned at the time.

Good luck with the oncology review next week.

Sounds like good news. I had surgeryfor recurrence in my pelvis, an isolated site. It's good they are more open minded abpout further surgery although my consultant had to jump through hoops to get funding agreed.

Hope she has a long remission
