Writing this from my hospital bed.....

Morning Ladies, hope you're all as well as any of us can be.

What a surprise for me last Friday 26th, got up feeling great looking forward to my holiday in Stoupa (Greece) Sunday 28th, with hubby. Seven days with lovely sunshine, no housework, no shopping, no cleaning!

How wrong can one be??? In my case very wrong!!

Within an hour of sorting suitcases, suddenly started to go very cold and shaking uncontrollably. Took temperature to discover it was 38.1 (not good). Slowly over the hr steadily creeping up.

Hubby phoned The Christie hotline to inform them of the rise (38.9), we were told to get to the asap, which we did (30 mins).

On arrival a team of nurses worked quickly, tagging me, sorting bloods, blood pressure checks, by now temp had risen to 39.5, felt shocking.

Admitted onto ward with more checks, umpteen questions on what had happened previously, any coughs, colds etc. By now temp had peaked at 40.

The doctors had suspicions the cause was my Hickman Line, which looked fine from the outside.

They decided not to use for any more blood tests just in case it was infected.

So began the drama of getting a cannula into a vein. So far I've had four different cannula inserted (for various problems) over five days. The back of my hands and arms are black and blue and very sore.

But yesterday the results came back that the line was the culprit, so out it came!

So ladies I've had my days of feet up, meals being brought to me, bed being changed etc.

Instead of enjoying a nice cold wine, I've had many jugs of Manchester tap water.

But hey I'm still here, may not have sun kissed skin, but can always get the bronzer out!

And so we carry on, onwards and upwards.

Now then, where did I put those holiday brouchers??? πŸ˜Žβ˜€οΈπŸΈ

You painted such a picture of your drama that I could not help but smile. Shouldn't really as I'm sure it was traumatic. Reminded me of the sort of thing Debs - Dollysmum would write! Sorry to hear you missed your holiday

:( Hope you are feeling better. Take Care x

So sorry to hear this happened to you but at least now it isnt nasties and you will get well enough to plan and have another holiday. That must have been real scary but I love your attitude you still have meals on wheels though not the sun, yet but that will come too. There is nothing stopping your hubby bringing you in a small bottle of red?

Hi Supergran,

Thank goodness it happened before you set off. I know it's a nightmare, but you're still in one piece and holiday's can be rebooked.

I hope you feel a better today.

So sorry to hear this. That's a very high temp. You say it was due to the line being infected? Is that the same as a port? I have 2 ports myself. Will you be able to go to Greece on holiday after you recuperate or was the hospital stay your holiday? Feel better.

Hi Rlenesue

Thanks for your message.

Think the Hickman line is quite similar, not sure what the difference is tho.

Hoping when I begin treatment again I can have a Portacath, which will allow me to go swimming.

The results of the infection came back as Sepsis, plus some sort of superbug. Now I know why I felt so poorly.

Hopefully get away soon, at least holiday clothes are all there ready to be put into the cases. 😎

Take care xx
