Hi,

I think when we have our blood test each time before chemo they do a full one and check the iron, so I would ask your nurse when she is doing the chemo how yours is. I often ask how my bloods are doing and she is able to tell me, it's all on her computer. I don't think the Gp would be involved as well, certainly not the way I have my treatment.

Hope you feel better soon. X

Hi, don't know how often you see your consultant but the chemo team and your GP should be able to tell you if any other elements of your bloods were low last time it was tested. If that wasn't recent your GP will be able to do a new one to check if your haemoglobin is low as that can certainly make you quite tired and weak. This happened to me a couple of times and a simple transfusion had me sorted out in no time - I felt much perkier in a couple of days. Hope this helps.

I wonder if it's the side-effect of the chemo? The hospital will take a full range of blood samples to check if you are able to have chemo. I felt very tired on carboplatin and gemcitibane even though I was taking GCS-F injections to boost the white cell production by the bone marrow.

It's worth mentioning how tired you are to your oncologist.

Hi Kaza. I had my bloods done at my local surgery the Friday before my chemo Tuesday. On 4 out of 5 occasions it was delayed chemo as some count or other wasn't right. Two blood transfusions were needed to sort out too low haemoglobin. Three weeks previous to treatment does seem a long time, particularly as we all know that the chemo attacks the bone marrow and hence the blood. My last chemo was cancelled as my bone marrow had had enough. Both my GP and Oncologist access blood results on line so maybe your GP could help. It all seems to depend on how supportive GPs and Oncology are. I am very lucky on that score. I wish everyone had as good support as I have. Good luck with the treatment. Love Val
