Hi everyone

Had 1st of weekly Taxol yesterday.

Nurse suggested Corsodyl and another.

I'm afraid my mind was not on her but the treatment I was about to receive.

I would appreciate any advice regarding alternatives.

Thanks & thinking of all you lovely ladies.

Gillian xx

Hi Gillian8O, I was told to gargle salt and water. You boil water add salt and keep it in the fridge, you make it up every 2nd day. I am sure the other Ladies will be able to offer you more advise. Kittie.

Hi Gillian, they told me last time salt and water just as good as anything else, a teaspoon in a glass of luke warm water. If this doesnt help, Difflam can be bought in the chemist and is better than the corsodyl, it helps alleviate pain you have from the mouth ulcers. I can imagine how you couldnt take in everything she said, our minds are at a mile a minute when we first start treatment regimes so concentration is out the door. I hope things go well for you and do keep in touch with us and ask anything you want, we will do our best to help you

Hi. I use a mouthwash called KIN and also drops suspension called MICOSTATIN & have survived without a sore mouth, thank god. Also, get a very soft toothbrush as it easy on our gums. Daisies

Kids toothbrushes. I buy from pound shop. Sterilise daily in dishwasher if you can. Also bicarbonate of soda mixed with boiled water and cooled. Corsodyl works reasonably as well but the bicarbonate during the day seems more gentle. Good luck

My hospital gives me a mouthwash but it's only available on prescription. You could ask yours if they could provide something. xx

Hi Gillian. I didn't have a problem on carbo taxol but on second line of carbo gemcitabine I had sore mouth and tongue. The nurses advice was salt and water but I had I tiny cut in my tongue and it was really painful!! My Gp gave me Diflam and I had it on repeat prescription through her throughout chemo. It really helped as it is an anti inflammatory too. If salt and water not enough see your Gp.

Hope you get it sorted

Corsodyl is good if you have mouth ulcers but unless you get the corsodyl daily which I don't think works as well, your teeth will get stained if you use it every day. My dentist advised me to only use it if mouth ulcers present. She advised a Colgate mouthwash for daily use.
